Gophers

Lucky guy. This is about all the gopher shooting I will get. None around here.

Was a good day for sure. 272 with the gun, one on the grid with the truck. Started at 11, finished at 4. Wind blows here in SK too, some serious gusts. A few swish shots.

I'm at a hotel in 3 Hills alberta this week. Lots of them in this area amd all the way from Saskatoon. Just a heads up for anyone looking. Fat and lazy right now, if you're looking you should go knock on doors. Chances are they will let you shoot or maybe even pave the way for you.

Another tip, just west of Hanna there is an abandoned house next to the highway (on the north side). Cut south at the grid right there, and prepare to have a sore loading thumb. Only about 1 km south of the highway. The buggers are everywhere.

If you are travelling through the Rosetown-Swift Current area, stop in at the ranchers' home/shop. My son and I pulled in this spring and they were very accomodating. They offered us ammo and a side by side to go cruising in. They even offered one of their guys to go out and show us where to go shooting.

I got out Saturday. It was raining off and in but gophers were everywhere. We were out for an hour and a half and went through 500 rounds and shot a pile of gophers. Was on a friends ranch southeast of Regina. He had already poisoned once and there are tons left

Hope you bought more than one because this how they turn very quickly. All shots were from 100m

Agreed, those targets don't last long. The two we bought last fall are now good coffee cups though! I believe the packaging stated they were only good for low velocity ammo, that's when the boys broke out the crate of Stingers. An afternoon of shooting rendered them pretty much useless.

I bought one of these at Bass Pro/Cabela's (can't remember) a few years ago, hoping it would scratch the itch when I can't get out west to shoot the real thing. Didn't scratch the itch at all, and mine ended-up looking like THAT ^ thing. lol

I've been shooting mine at 100 yards with (mostly) SV ammo. Maybe I'll just use it as an air rifle target instead and buy some spinners or something.

Was out on Saturday. My usual spot is waist deep in hay so had to switch to an adjacent pasture. The hay field is crawling with them but they’re like lice. Cannot see them in the tall grass. It’s going to be a slaughter as soon as the first cut comes off. Bagged about 40 out of the pasture. Grass was pretty high there too.

Got a lead on a equestrian horse breeder not too far away with a serious infestation. Been offered free ammo to come clean out their pasture and paddocks. :d

Just got home from southern Sask and didn't take enough ammo. I only had 250 of 17hmr, 250 of 204's and 300 for my 223. My buddy had about the same amount so we came home when we ran out. At approximately 1 pound per gopher, we left well over half a ton of coyote bait on that pasture between 2pm yesterday and noon today!!
Great fun!

I just returned fro my annual tip to Alberta, it was cut short by the turn in the weather but I have no complaints, I used my CZ 452 Varmint in .17HMR more than normal and it's amazing. My Brno 2E carried most of the load however.

My 31st trip in 33 years....:sniper:
