Ask in advance of when you plan to shoot, you will meet a lot of very nice people you will make new friends as you really are helping them out and who knows you may also be offered big game access once you've earned the farmer's trust.

I figured just knock and ask, but wondering if there was a better way.
I can go 15 minutes out of the city limites in any direction on a back or side road and find fields full of gophers. Only problem is figureing out what house owns the land.

But if someone has an area close to edmonton and wants company :)

also I have to be 50 meters from the road and 500 meters from a house right? and be awear of where teh bullet will go.

gophers

have been out shooting twice first 3-26-06 and 4-1-06 good turn out by the
gorphers... first group got the 17 HMR and then the 10/22 bullbarrel
17HMR makes it easy for the hawks and coyotes to eat ...tears them up good
10/22 always good for head shots....buddy and I on two days got about 60 gophers ...not bad for start of the season

Was out yesterday east of Calgary and got the first of my season:D ..Still too wet out there right now as frost melt has made everything in the fields real soggy.. They are around, but scarce, pretty teeny for first of season and real low. Need more sunshine for them to do the "stand on guard" routine b4 u pop 'em.
But, they are around. You see lots of them in town but its much drier in town. Apparently the local constabulary frowns on the shooting of them in town as they think it was start a Turf War....DOH!
They are going to be in full bloom shortly!!
Cheers:)

Wish my new Stevens (.223  ) would get here as I am getting the itch. Haven't had good LR critter gun for a while. .22 always works though ;) .

Starting to get the little buggers in the yard  . Damn city limit regs . Starting to get a lot of rabbits too. Never really had them before. Doesn't look like a good year for the garden :( .

was out on saturday for 10 minutes and saw 3, only hit 2 though, the third was really moving, surprising seeing how fat it was.
would they be pregnant right now?

I went out on Sunday and whacked about 100 in a little less than two hours.

Out of curiousity, has anyone used a 'gopher call' like they sell at Wholesale? Does blowing on one make them stand up and look around? Every time I get into the back of the truck, they can see me for miles and are way more cautious... makes for okay head shots, but they can be tough to see!

the call works perfectly :) if you had one - you would killed twice more than "... about 100 in a less than 2 hours..." but read the instruction first...
you do not blow , you have to suck the air through the call :)
good luck and have fun :)

I tried one of those calls last season and did not notice much difference from blowing across a spent .22 case. However there are so many gophers out there calling cuts into trigger time.
