Just wondering about shooting gophers in a pasture beside a highway. No shooting accross of course and I believe no shooting parallel to a roadway. Any input from SK experience is welcome.

Walk in a ways and always keep your back to the hiway and you should be OK.

Kinda what I thought. Have to drive in and use a rotating bench, waiting for a left knee and have bad arthur in the right foot. Walking isn't an option. Thanks for the input.

Nice looking bench. Did you buy or build?

I always get permission first. Most land owners will be glad to have you there if you show respect for their property. It helps to have a little grey hair too. Regarding the bench, I built it last year. Not as steady as a proper bench rest type but totally adequate for the intended purpose. Takes less than a minute to set up. The field rest has a hand rest at the rear, makes target aquisition quick. The critters don't stand still for long, fixed rear would be a pain.

Many dead gophers today in that pasture beside highway. RC's saw me as they went by. Surprised a couple of badgers while moving to another spot, about 20 yds away. Made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Just across the road from where I work in S. Edmonton there are a bunch of gophers no more than 10-20m from the roadway. They KNOW they're safe; I swear they taunt me as I drive by!! ;-}
