GoPro HERO HD Cam allowed during IPSC match???

There is a chest mount and head strap mount harness, I like the head strap harness.

I alway like/try to film myself at matches I shoot to review my performance later BUT either I need someone else to film me or there may be others at these matches that maybe included in the filming that wish not to be filmed.

I think this is a great method of filming myself... in first person.

So my question for all you RO's and RM's... is this legal to use during my shoot if I use the headstrap harness. If good to go then great but if not than why is it not allowed, maybe something I missed in the rule book?

nothing saying you can't, shooters have been doing it different forms for years. I've had on RO say I could place my camera down range at the end of table we shot from since it was metal and too close. :rolleyes:

lots of options out there from ready to go units or DIY by buying seperate components. seen guys do it with a trail camera and a baseball hat. theres a pair of glasses out there that look like oakley halfjackets with a small camera on the nose bridge
 
ROC. If you do go with the Go Pro you wont be disappointed. Very large area of view, plus very clear and clean filming. Will not glitch/freeze at all.
 
Anyone mount one of these to a firearm? If not a pistol then at least a rifle? I was thinking of a mount off the front sling stud, or perhaps atop the scope. Would make for some interesting hunting footage. Though, if the recoil messes up the footage, then forget it.
 
I don't want this thread to go off topic please and that is would mouting a video camera, as long as it's mounted securely and safely,to one self and using it during their shoot allowed or not allowed

Anything else can be googled, youtube, start another thread or just visiting GoPro's web site.

I bought the hat cam and I hate it. It's a pain in the ass to start up...and the mounting system is a joke.

I think the glasses (hands free video) are probably the best answer. You want something that starts up with the press of a button...so you don't distract yourself when you should be getting ready for the beep...

Seems to work well with the recoil, it obviously shakes but holds a decent frame. The auto-focus is very quick to recover from the shake

yes it is allowed unless the match has a deal with a vendor to provide videoing for resale. in that case the match booklet would tell you that it was not allowed. not something i would except to see in Canada but i am told that some of the big matches do it for additional revenue through i have never seen anything published like that.
 
ROC...I should add...the RO has final say on range safety...and if he or she felt the setup was causing a safety issue (wires all over the place...or it was simply taking all of your focus away from the gun)...they could certainly raise an issue with the RM. As an RO, I'd also have an issue if it took the shooter 3 minutes to get the camera setup...slowing down the rest of the squad.

I would think that this camera would avoid those pitfalls.

That being said...I don't think it's the answer. You will note that in all the sample uses...it's being started up once and run for several minutes. At an IPSC match, you will be strating in 6 or 8 times and running it for 20 seconds or so (unless you really suck ;) )

I have already consider that and that is why this unit seems very attractive to me not only for this application but many others I plan to use this unit for.

And I can image how my 2010 IPSC season camera guy/shooting partner felt everytime I said I was bringing my camera to a match....:bangHead:. Then again I did the same for him in return....:bangHead:.

OK OK... I'm just vain... and I wonder how my private YouTube videos have been viewed over a 100x's... :D

Why not use the chest mount with the HD wide angle? It would allow you to get the video you want and you'd have direct access to the camera without having to worry about it on your head. I think you'd be less likely to have issues with a RO with this mount over the head one.
 
That would probably look a bit odd...the camera would be below the gun. Maybe a bit to artsy for IPSC :D

As we say it... It's not how good you shoot but how good you look while shooting. :D

I thinking running around with this strapped on looks odd:

But after some Google research I found this Baseball Cap idea that is very simple and all you will need is the GoPRO HD cam, tri/mono-pod mount, bolt/knob and your not so favorite or your favorite baseball cap and put the bolt throught the brim of your cap and attach the GoPRO to it. Once you put on the ear protectors everything should be held in place very securely:
 
I tried two different setups...one with an external lens on my ear muffs...one from DAA that mounts on the brim of a cap. I didn't like them. Too much fumbling around just before I'm ready to shoot.

I'm thinking of getting a set of these

Dad got one for Christmas. He used it in our AMA Multigun match on the 2nd.
He used the headcam setup on it.

I've downloaded the raw footage and am very impressed by the resolution and clarity.

Once I get some editing done, I'll be posting it.

Editing is mandatory with these things; from the time you get it turned on on your head to the actua footage you want, back to the time you get it turned off, the useful part of video is like 1/4 of the data.

Oh, and to answer your question, so long as the thing doesn't fall off during a cource of fire and become a safety hazzard, you're fine with IPSC.

The EHC in France in 2007 did not allow headcams because they had made a deal with Eric Grauffel to do the official video. Eric's video was nice, but it would have been nice for people to get thier own footage of themselves too. The uproar over it likely killed another match forcing it, but you never know.

If you do get those make sure to do a review here. They actually look like they work pretty good.
