Gordon's Reloading Tool

I've been using this for a while and am quite happy with the way it operates and the results it gives. It has been pretty darn close to real world measurements. I use quite a few of the available tools in it and have built one calibre for my own use (7-08 AI).

If you fine tune everything it can be ridiculously accurate. Sometimes it's not even close though. Some powders and cartridges are especially problematic like most any straight walled magnum and H-110. It says some of my loads are ridiculously high pressure when they clearly aren't. Gotta take the good with the bad I guess.

The problem is, the inconsistencies leave you wondering whether you can trust the data or not. I've taken loads from published reloading manuals and run it through the program, and it comes out as overpressure. Some of my own handloads come up as overpressure, yet I have no pressure signs at all. I've mostly stopped using it, and gone back to comparing published data from as many different sources as I can find.

I'd be far more worried about errata in the other direction. Are there any areas where the program will call something a reasonable load but it will blow up your gun?

From what I read (briefly) in the program, the accuracy of the output data is heavily dependent on the input data by the user. The more detailed / accurate the input data (as in any program I imagine) the more accurate the output data.
Admittedly I have not used it yet to formulate a specific load for me but will look to developing a load with it when my Club opens in a few weeks.

There is a great deal of experience needed to be using the tool to create loads from scratch. I input as much data as I can on my end, proper and verified case capacities for example. Then I typically look for published loads to compare.

Just due diligence is all that is really needed. It hasn't done me wrong yet but I would never use it as a standalone method for blind load development. It has warnings all over not to use it in such a manner. S

Start low and work up absolutely applies. I haven't found any unsafe loads when they should be safe, the opposite I certainly have as I mentioned. It think some of my pistol loads are creating 50,000+ PSI when it is clearly not the case.

^^^^^ Very true. I've been using Quickload for appx 10 yrs and GRT since it has been available. There is a significant learning curve to both programs to achieve good results. Input data as mentioned is crucial to reliable out put.
