Got a 18" 870, buying extra long barrel or a semi auto?

I have Rem 870 express with 18" barrel. The ideal shotgun will be used for upland game bird, waterfowl and multi-purpose. My original plan was just buy an extra 28" 870 barrel for game bird. But heard that pump action shotgun is kind of too slow for some game bird. (correct me if I'm wrong)

So another thought is buying a not-expensive semi-auto. My budget is less than $600.

Can you guys give me some suggestions how I can spend $$ wisely to achieve the purpose?

I would get a 28" barrel for the 870 it only takes 10 seconds to change. and a pump might be slower but it's faster than when a cheap semi-auto jams
and I think wholesale has 28" barrels for $200ish

Yup, pump is slower than an auto but never found it too slow. I pulled a couple triples on the weekend on both ducks and geese.

Contact Dlask Arms he may still have the 870 28" barrels that he was selling at about the best price I've ever seen.

I can fire my 870 on target just as fast as those with Semis.
Racking the action is so automatic now, I have to think hard to stop it.
By the time you get back on target, you are ready to fire.

Now it is slower if you are just throwing lead or steel down range, but for aimed fire, no difference in speed.

It's like an Auto vs standard car...%99.999 of all humans cannot out-shift an auto, but with practise you learn to shift as fast as you have to. it will soon become second nature to you.

the ones that can out shoot the auto wear sponsored jackets and make videos on youtube

Sounds like I should save money to get an extra 28" barrel. BTW, my existing 870 use the mag extension. When I switch to 28" barrel, is there any modification and accessory should be aware?

A plug so it only holds two in the mag!

How about a happy face endcap from Dlask. They're only $10.00 and it would probably look better than the staggered tubes. You also wouldn't need to worry about marking up the new barrel with the magazine clamp.

I was thinking about it, but I need a shorter spring instead after using the endcap?

Standard factory springs are easy and cheap to come by.

Could always cut your existing extended spring down and buy a replacement extended spring.

Some people I know like the extra "umphhhh" provide by the cut-down spring.

Right.... I took the price off wholesale sports website. Yes you can get them for cheaper if he shops around or finds a good deal on a used one
