Got a black combat shotgun (590A1)

Awesome gun! Got mine 2 days ago & love it! I got the blackwater edition.

Does the rubber stock-pad help much ?

Stock pads aren't that great with Mossberg shotguns but they are acceptable. If I can shoot 00Buck with a pistol grip only, most can survive with that setup pictured. For those who need more protection, Limbsaver makes direct fit recoil pads for them.

The BW edition is great value for the money. However, I removed the two accessory rails on the foregrip after my first range session. One rail kept jamming my thumb with the recoil of 00Buck! Also, the speedfeed stock didn't hold shells too good.
I found the stock pad ok but the LOP on these are not for the short armed shooter....YMMV

How do you like the sights on the BWE John?
I ask because Ive read complaints from owners about the rear XS ghost ring not being able to be raised high enough to compensate for the very tall front rifle sight that this shotty has. Mainly this was discovered when shooting longer distances, with slugs at 50, 75, 100 yrds.

I've read the same but I only shot 00Buck…The XS sights were fast to acquire on target but was always concerned the rear was too exposed against bumps.
On the other hand I find the GRS with "wings" a bit more distracting and even block out some of the target (at times)

I haven't found those accessories rails a problem, same with the speedfeed stock it's never dropped any shells on me yet...I agree on length of pull but I'm 6"2 so it fits me great! It's a real mans gun lol & after shooting slugs & 00buck for an hour your shoulder will feel it even with the recoil pad but nothing too bad the fun of the gun out weighs that!

st1264…great choice! I found GRS a little slower to acquire on target (@ 25yrds) than a plain bead but it got better with practice. They are more "accurate" for shooting slugs…however.
I have fond memories of mine (#51517). In hindsight I probably should have kept it and installed a mag extension. I would consider another 18.5" A1 but with non-speedfeed stock and bead sight only. Mossberg SG's are addictive.

IIRC…Choate makes a +1 mag extension that will fit flush to the barrel on an 18.5" Mossberg. (It's slightly longer than the standard+1)
If you run the OEM Mossberg follower you should be able to squeeze in an extra 2.75" shell for a 7+1. BBB may know more...

Hey st1264, I have a S&J extension on my 590 18". Looks and works perfect. Makes it pretty much flush with the bbl.

I have pics but can't post from my phone right now.

Just screws on in place of the endcap. Longer spring tho. Yep 7 shells.

Not sure price, I got this 590 already done up with extension, side saddle, follower etc already in place.

The big gain on the 18.5 plus an extension is the reduced length, and weight.
Except after the cost of the gun, plus the extension and add on all the taxes and shipping, you are actually exceeding the price of the 20" version because its ends up being around $680ish dollars after all said and done. ($500/gun, $100/extension, $80/taxes&ship)

Not a big deal, just know that you pay the same or more for the 18.5 as the 20 if you get the extention. You end up with less length, weight, round capacity and no bayo lug as a result.
