Hey All.

A friend gave me a bunch of SR4756 (about 8lbs maybe?). I have reloaded rifle and pistol from time to time, but really I am a shotgun reloader.

Typically I use 700x with W209 in Win hulls with a CB 3/4oz wad, 9 shot. I like soft shooters and with skeet I don't seem too handicapped.

I haven't been able to find a use for the SR4756. I would like to use it in a single stage 20ga press I have so I don't have to mess with my MEC progressive I use for my 12ga. I want a light load in it as well because I am trying to get my daughter into shooting.

I know it was pretty popular with 38sp, but honestly, I don't shoot enough of that to warrant working out a load for my 586 with 8 3/8 barrel.

Any thoughts on shotgun loads?

Thanks
C

I used to have what I felt was an awesome waterfowl load before the non-tox days. Federal Gold Medal Hull/Federal 209 primer/34gr SR4756/Rem RP12 wad/1 3/8 oz copper plated shot. It shot WELL!! Clean burning in all temps & patterned superbly. Loaded with some #6 I am sure it would be awesome on Turkeys! And I know it sure rolled foxes with #2 shot!

Wasn't 4756 one of the recommended powders for the Savage smokeless muzzleloader? I think it might be popular with those guys if that's the case as it isn't made anymore IIRC. Might be able to trade into something you prefer.

From Lyman 2nd edition shotshell handbook 19.5grs SR4756, Federal 209 primer, Remington RXP20 wad, 7/8oz shot, 1200fps, 9170LUP
20grs SR4756, Winchester 209 primer, Winchester WAA20 wad, 7/8oz, 1145fps, 7560LUP
20grs SR4756, Remington 97* primer, Federal 20S1 wad, 7/8oz, 1200fps, 9410LUP
These loads are for use in a Remington RXP hull virtually identical to a Gun Club. These were listed as skeet loads in 2 3/4 in hull.

I picked this up from the Trapshooters website. You should be able to duplicate the results if you can find appropriate wads.
