Got a crate of 7.62 from Epps for $199

I picked up a crate of 1320 from LeBaron. Came re-packed in cardboard boxes with the can opener. I was told that it was Russian at the time of purchase and didnt look into it any further. Havent had a failure with any of them yet so i dont care what they are. They work always just like the Russian sks' I picked up. I hate when people assume Sks' (Russian) and the surplus ammo are cheap quality because they are old. I reworked the stocks on them and not only are they reliable as all hell they are good looking to boot!

The people at Epps are great,,,I have been dealing with the business since I was a kid riding my bike around the area. Always the same though. Good deals when they got them and always competitive prices. Fair value on trades as well...knowledgeable and helpful staff. I cant believe how steady business is there all the time...this tells you something. I'd go before hunting season...the place is notoriously jammed at this time...I don't think I know a single Hunter who doesn't make this place the "must stop" place before heading to camp.

Believe me, im not complaining about Epps at all. Or the ammo really. When you consider how old it is its amazing it shoots at all. Its just strange that this stuff seems to cause cycling problems in my VZ... On the other hand, in my SKS, it works great. 100 rounds through this afternoon and not one issue. So it must have something to do with the VZ's short stroke piston. Every round fires, its just that sometimes it doesnt eject the casing hard enough and it gets stuck in the breach.

It looks cool though with the red paint on it.

Its fired at least 1000 rounds of chinese surplus without ONE issue... not one. Its broken in, everything is clean and lubed where it should be. The only thing thats changed is the ammo. Its not the gun. I know that for sure. Its the ammo. Just strange that it would be so different.

photo of spam can

that photo you posted is of a Chinese spam can with 720 rds per can in paper bundles It is corrosive. If the cans say 550 it is in 10rd stripper clips This is for Chinese packaging. There are many types of cans used as well some open differently

I have fired the Czech, Polish, Hungarian (MFS), Prvi, and Hornady ammo out of my SKS (the later three being commercial products). They are all dirty, but they are all 100% reliable. I clean after each shoot, so corrosion is never an issue for me.

The most accurate? Prvi, by far. The Hornady is nice as well, and it comes in the SST tip.

If you can still find the Czech stuff under $200, buy it!! This stuff won't last forever.
