Got a new HK45..... Or Did I ?

Just received my "new" HK45 from a busy forum sponsor. I was a little shocked to see it wrapped in bubble wrap inside the case. The pistol was produced in 2013. I find it hard to believe this was sitting on a shelf for 4 plus years.

Repeated emails and phone calls have not been returned. Is there a sure fire way to know if this was a used Pistol ? Or will a good cleaning hide all?

Update 9:26pm, it's a new pistol.....just older. No wear noticed after field strip

When I did initial cleaning on a new HK pistol, the patch turned out to be black. I think it should be normal, as it has been test fired and the test target is included in package.

No target in my package. However, the case plus a pile of o-rings were present

So what if it's produced in 2013? What is the expiry date on the gun? I suppose you don't shoot ammo that's been sitting on the shelf for too long either because they're not fresh?

If it's manufactured in 2013, kinda hard to believe it'd still be "new". It's a case of advertisement, not a gun being expired

If it's been fired more than a few times, there should be some marks on the breechface. A sure sign. Plus where the barrel locks & unlocks in the slide, look for marks.
A good cleaning will not remove slightly new wear marks....

It's a good business practice to check your messages and emails.

May be a call to CFP with the gun's serial number might help - if the gun's not "new" it had to be registered before to somebody but a dealer ...

It's not at all usual for stores to have guns manufactured several years ago still in stock. Guns are not cars; you don't have to clear out the previous year's inventory once the new model year is released. Also, gun stores often buy from distributors as opposed to directly from manufactures and there can be all sorts of reasons why a gun would be sitting in a distributor's warehouse for several years.

As far as the test target, is your gun made in Germany or USA? American-made guns (except for really high end stuff) typically do not come with targets. In Germany, it's required by law.

For sure, just seemed wierd having a 4 year old HK45 in my hand. I figured the turnover for this pistol was higher. Esp from the dealer I bought it from.

Just field striped her. Definitely new. Just got a few more years on her then I was expecting.

Not impressed with the lack of communication from the dealer. But, lesson learned and cross off another dealer I won't buy from again.

If the pistol had tritium sights I'd be a little pissed to lose four years of the sights' useful life. In this case, though, the HK45's photo luminescent sights should be fine.
