So some of you probably saw my thread on the Mossberg Silver Reserve II. Well, I got this today. New to me, Traditions Field Hunter II by Fausti. Its basically a cheaper, less fancy, re badged Weatherby Athena. It even uses Weatherby Chokes. The date stamp is BP being 2001. I got it for a grand total of $399.99 + tax.

Yea it's just the lock up pin. Same style lock up as Beretta DT 11 and Weatherby Athena.

It's a square cross-bolt and an excellent feature to have as additional lock strength. However, it isn't the Kersten design one would see on the DT 11, Weatherby, SKB etc.

Shotgun appears to be in great shape. I'm assuming the trigger is perhaps mechanical and non-selective? I recall a HuntOntario forum member who used to use one somewhere around 2003.

I thought at first the gun didn't have a barrel selector but I found where the selector is. It's actually on the trigger. But yes correct the gun is mechanical triggers.

I think I used to own that gun!! I sold it about 3 years ago, and at the time it didnt have the recoil pad installed on it. It also had just a front bead sight. The gun didnt fit me worth a damn as it didnt have enough drop. Its built on a very popular guild gun frame used by many small guild makers. The concave barrels just forward of the receiver is what gives it away. The gun has very good ejectors with f/m chokes. You'll usually see many of these guild guns on gun show tables for around $500-$550, so you did well.

I didn't get a full choke with it. Just a Mod and ImpCyl. I knew though from researching the gun it's supposed to come with a full but when I asked the store they said the gun came in with just those two chokes. At least its the Mod and ImpCyl which I use the most out of all chokes. I might get more chokes later.

Then it cant be the same gun unless someone had thin wall chokes installed.

This gun is a 2001 so I don't think its that vintage to be a gun that had fixed chokes.

20 or 12 gauge , nothing wrong with that deal you scored.
Hope it gets some use chasing Grouse this fall.
Rob

Its a 12 gauge. Can't wait for the Grouse season. I couldn't hunt last year because I was stuck here in Vancouver and not back home on the Island and the year before that I was in University so also no season but this year, I put in an LEH draw, first year I ever did it, for moose bull and mule deer doe. If I get the draw for either one, a one week hunting trip is in the making so lots of hunting, fishing, and grouse hunting. You may of seen this picture before as I posted it a few times but this is our grouse hunting dog.

Typically called Greener cross bolt after its inventor! :>)
The Faustis are well built guns, even the OEM guns like the Traditions .

Thanks. That's good to hear. I bought the gun on a bit of research and it turned out from what I found that people liked them a lot. But the more people that tell me its a nice gun is even better.

I shot the gun today. Put 100 rounds though it at VGC. 50 in sporting clays and 50 in two rounds of trap singles. I did terrible on the first half of sporting clays. Some stations I only hit one bird. But on the last three stations, I got 5/6 on stations 6 and 7 and then 4 on station 8 resulting in a terrible low score of 25/50. I though about trying it again as I was starting to pick up my game at the end but I decided to do two games of trap singles instead. First game was an easy 23/25. Second game I was getting tired from the heat and lost a few birds resulting in a score of 18/25. No pain in the face or shoulder after today. Singles to me the gun fits me pretty well as I was shooting 1 1/8oz loads. My previous Beretta 686 White Onxy, I couldn't get though a game of Sporting Clays without my face taking a horrible beating to the point where I didn't want to finish the game.

Now that I have determined I like the gun, the next moves will be to get some Carlson chokes for it as the gun only came with 2. Mod and ImCly.

Congrats on your new shotgun, looks to have some nice engraving. Is it made in Italy?

Yep. Made in Italy.
