Just curious what the Nutz would have recommended. Here was my criteria:

1) Only for "up to" 50yrd targets
2) wanted all metal to help control recoil (elbow problem history)
3) wanted 9mm to control cost and recoil
4) wanted top quality & reliability at reasonable price point
5) wanted future option availability
6) wanted semi auto

What would nutz have recommended for this?

I will post the choice once I see some recommendations.

My first choice would have been a 9mm AR, but this is the pistol section. I'm going with CZ or Baby Eagle. I think you could pistol whip a moose with either of those.

(E)

If not for insisting on 9mm I'd say a long barrel revolver with scope mount. Or a single shot Contender with scope. 50 yards for a handgun is more than what most shooters typically shoot at. The rather blocky open sights on most semi auto handguns are not so great for serious bullseye work at that range.

So yeah, I'm curious now.

I would have to agree with BCRider's thoughts on this. Fifty yards is a long way with the sight picture that would be presented with most semi-autos.

Perhaps a Smith & Wesson Model 610 revolver (you can shoot .40 cal S & W or 10mm Auto) with a mounted optic would better meet the 50 yard requirement; however, I realize this is getting away from some of your stated list of requirements (9mm and semi auto).

I will be interested to see what model you end up going with.

Regards,

Chizzy

Not to mention most semi-auto ammo you buy (i.e. cheap stuff) is going to be terrible at 50m.

I'd say get a revolver as well, perhaps a GP100?
You can buy .38spl for cheap and that will address all your criteria. Reload .357mag for when you want to try hitting that 50m target with consistency ;)
