Got a non-functional Walther P38 for Christmas - Help please

So some think I should be able to do this myself and just replace the broken parts? I'll hold off on calling that guy and get good video once it's in my possession and hopefully someone can tell me what parts I need. Thank you everyone for all of the help.

I would advise that you join www.P38forum.com, they have a vast amount of info and advice as well all the best places to get parts... when you get it shooting again, you should only fire 115 grain jacket ammo, preferably winchester white box
good luck

If you don't have any more parts. Just what you showed in the vid. you will need.
firing pin and indicator cover , rear sight, firing pin retainer , automatic firing pin lock spring , automatic firing pin lock .
did you check the front of the slide for any damage ? around where the firing pin protrudes. if you want a list of parts and diagrams, and take down instructions ,send me a PM .

I think you should send it to Jason at Gunco. I've taken a few rifles to him for repairs. You can rest assured that it will be in good hands and get fixed properly the 1st time.

I think so too. As much as I like to fix my own problems I want this done right.

On a side note I watched Inglorious Basterds the other day (for the 3-4th time) and there is a lot of P38 #### in that movie.

Nope, the indicator is in there. You can push it and the lil nubby thing pops out the back. gaff stated what the missing parts may be and I think he was pretty much on the ball from the parts diagram I saw.

A buddy of mine played 52 pick-up with his P-38 shooting Ruko ammo! Lucky he found all the parts scattered around the bench............Harold

I think I'm gonna call the guy gaff suggested tomorrow. Found his info in the online yellow pages.

P.S. The holster with the German Coat of Arms symbol also came with it. Does anyone also have suggestions for products to help restore/maintain it?

Jason's a good gunsmith, but don't try to be too chatty with him unless he's in the mood to shoot the sh!t, so to speak.

p38

Dam I always thought p38 pistols were tough pistols . I have been told you can fire SMG ammo out of Browing Hi powers and CZ pistols. I was at the Ancaster gunshow a year or so ago and this guy had brand new P38 slides in the wrapping. WW2 issue for sale.

if I remember the guys name I;ll pm you .

I c... maybe that explains his neglect to mention said hunting adventure and to delay shipment. :p

It's gonna suck if it get's shipped back to me... I don't know how long they hold items. I guess I could call the post office.

Just want to update this situation. The P38s slide came back from Jason at Gunco all fixed up. Got it out to the range yesterday. Had a couple of FTE so it definitely needs some more TLC. The slide is VERY easy to manipulate so maybe some new springs will help? Was a nice lil shooter, but I wouldn't want to have to trust it with my life. I don't plan to shoot it often anyway, it's more of a sentimental piece.

Sounds like it has a weak main spring from firing alot of hot ammo over time then all of a sudden BOOM it blew up. Get it replaced.

Someone was speaking of Inglorious Bastards. This is my favourite scene.
