Heres a pic of a 223 project i am going to have put together soon. Kind of excited always wanted a 223 boltgun. Havent decided yet if it will be an ackley version or not yet. Hopefully i can get it shooting before its too cold out.

Is it just me, or does that barrel look like a baseball bat ;)
Is the small end threaded to go into the action?

Sorry for the lack of details. Was in a hurry to get back to fondling the stock. The action is a 722 i picked up a few years ago. The barrel is a 8" twist by Gaillard. He got me the barrel made in record time. Like 4 and a half weeks to my door. Told me it would be around 6. great guy. The stock i ordered from jwprecision. He has some in stock. My gunsmith is gonna let me know what my choices are for 223 chamberings next time hes in his shop. Kinda want to try the ackley but he thinks his is a tight neck. hes gonna let me know.

Ya i ordered the "bat" contour. its actually a HV benchrest type contour. straight taper from 1.25 to about 900 at 26" i think? the smaller portion isnt threaded i'm not sure why the step maybe so you cant use that part?

Any issues with the barrel channel not being wide enogh? I was looking at one of his stocks but would have rather had a wider barrel channel to start. I believe he says his are opened standard Rem. varmint (5.5) contour.

the sticker on the stock said it has a douglas #7 channel. it looks like i may have to open mine up unless i get the smith to use the more foward portion of the barrel. havent decided on length. The blank measures 27" to the stepped portion. A heavy rem contour would fit without any issue for sure

The smaller machined part at the front gets cut off. Gaillard leaves it on for the lapping process so there is no part that does not get lapped properly. I believe there is info on his site on this.
