Got an action, got a stock, Cant pick a caliber

6.5X47 Lapua. Just as accusrate as 6mmBR and better ballistics.

HHHHMMM tell me more! I haven't heard of that round it's not even in my reloading manuels. However I see that Lapua makes brass. the 6.5 family is my favorite so this has promise. :D

6.5x47 is supposed to be the new up an coming precision load. I know a few shooters here who have been having a hell of a time getting theirs to shoot as well as their other calibers. (308, 6BR, .223)

One of our shooters has put upwards of 1000 rounds load development, bedded the original stock, replaced that stock and it still won't shoot to his standards.

Now I am not trying to talk you out of the 6.5x47, I am just relaying what I have seen. It may just be that he got a mediocre barrel that won't shoot.

I was told that I should build a 6.5x47 Lapua when I wanted to build my F-Class rig but I decided with the proven track record of the 6BR it was the only way to go for me.

I have 2 6.5X47 Lapuas, a trued Rem 700 and a PGWDTI Coyote. They both shoot well under 1/2", best group .25", 5 shots at 100 meters. Velocities are higher than expected. They have Gaillard barrels and were built by a very good gunsmith. They are winning 600 yard BR matches already - go to 6MMBR website. This calibre is built to compete with the great 6MMBR. I have Lapua Scenar bullets ranging from 100-139gr, so it's versatile.

Peter

The posts that a lot of members have pushed is 6mm are true they really are probably the best for small groups you can't beat them. but for long range in wind conditions they have problems. I watched them at Connaught last year and before. There is articale on a Fclass shooter here on the .284 reg 7mm I can find it but its there somewhere
http://www.6mmbr.com/index.html
he made up one and barrel will outlast the 6.5/284 3 to one and the 7mm bullets available today with very high BC will be great for longrange shooting
and would make some fine bean field hunting gun as well and deadly on Coytes etc at 500 yards and way out as well. recoil will be managble,I have one in 7mmwsm but recoil is a factor and uses lots of powder.

Thanks for the info. One question how's the life on the 6.5x47 Lapua brass it is quite a bit more money than the 6mmBR Lapua brass. Thanks.

Thanks never thought about that one either. Man maybe this question was a bad idea :D JK

Don't know what brass life will be, as we haven't ruined any, but the thicker base due the small rifle primer has so far been able to wihstand very high pressure.

Just my $0.02...I would chamber it in 260 Rem. Good barrel life and easy to find brass for reloading. It's a ballistic equivalent to the 6.5X 55 Swedish Mauser, one of my all time favourite cartridges. The 260 should feed just fine from your mag as well since it's based on the .308 cartridge. The 260 is good for 1000y/m as well. It can be loaded to within 100fps of the 6.5-284m, which is the current favourite LR/F-Class cartridge. Lots of good hunting and target bullets available from about 100gr to 165gr.
