Got an Enfeild for my Birthday! Update pg 4!

Don't believe anyone when they tell you it kicks too hard,my son shot mine when he was 9 years old. He is now 16 and shoots anything I have in the gunsafe.
That's a nice present for sure, load it, shoot it enjoy it........

If anyone doesn't believe the British War Office had a sense of humour, take a look at the "recoil pad" on the JC's

Glad to hear your teenager is spending time with you pushing lead downrange.

Yes the JC kicks slightly more than my Winchester in 25-20.

Oh well. It's a light rifle shooting rounds of 303 Br. So the experience shouldn't be a surprise :D

When you do expect it, and you're positioned accordingly, it's ok. The fun thing is to lend it to some guys at the range who don't expect it, and enjoy seing their face and hearing their comments after their shot.

It's not much different from my Mosin-Nagant M44 really.

Krashed, did you try her yet? :)

It's NOT a recoil pad - It was put on to protect the butt from hard impact with the ground, such as in parachuting, as the butt has lightening holes drilled longitudinally. The British would never stoop so low as to protect troopie from the rifle - The rifle needs to be protected from the troopies!

I love my little No 5 - It is a riot!

Welcome to the Enfield club - Betcha can't own just one!

Nice "Jungle Carbine" did you get the bayonet too? They handle well, but not known as tack drivers like the standard No 4's

Authentic Jungle bayonets are rare, and will cost about the same amount as the rifle itself. Ok I can't wait to get one myself. :)

Reproductions will cost you something like $50 to $100 I think.

Great looking rifle for sure. The only two complaint I've ever heard anyone mention was 1: The kick 2: some have wondering zero. I haven't fired a #5 personally so i'm just stating what others have said.

Update: Finally got it out to the property with about 40 rounds (thanks to ghostsaww). I know you guys can't see smiles over the internet but i've still got a smirk on my face. The kick was actually not as bad as people made it out to be. The smoke that came out of the barrel was pretty thick (it wasn't that cold out either) . After a few shots I was hitting a target roughly 130-140 yards out consistently with a rest. This was pretty surprising since I was using the open sites (not the ones that can be flipped up and adjusted) with reloads in a rifle that hasn't been shot in a few decades.

Awesome awesome awesome I love this rifle!
