Hey guys after months of waiting for my pal it has finally arrived. Now i am just waiting for my m305 to get here, i know it's going to need some initial cleaning and then maintenance after each session. I am pretty ocd when it comes to cleaning and taking care of my things so I am wondering if you experts have any cleaning kits, products or tools you can recommend?

So far i have nothing, hardly any tools and barely any house cleaning products. Ill be starting school for mechanical engineering in September's so I'm willing to spend some money on good tools.

I used brake cleaner. And the cleaning kit that comes wirh the rifle some patchs and thats it

X2

keep it simple. It's a simple rifle, and designed for battle. It's not a precision tuned instrument. M305's like a little rough around the edges ;)

My wallet and i are liking these answers :) what about oils and greases, the kit comes with these as well? I know these have probably been answered before. But im at work and juat ao anxious, plus i got a sprained right wrist making computer use. Difficult

forget the ol; read up and you'll find that good old white lithium is all you need- sure, you can get fancy if you want , but basically the same rules apply to the 14 as the garand- forget that cleaning kit that comes with- get a DEWEY rod,or some other one-piece- those steel things in the buttstock will ruin your bore with use- when you get yours, swing the buttplate up, open the door, and take out ONE section of cleaning rod - then the rest will come out- DO NOT PULL ON THE TAB-it's packed in there so tight all it'll do is rip-
now, once you get the cleaning kit out of the back, you have a choice-
the ONLY thing you actually use out of that is the combo tool- me, i secured a nice military pouch and stuck all the cleaning "goodies" in that- left the buttstock empty- and it's a LOT less noisy
however if you decide that you'd rather have it populated, pack the works back in there ( carefully) and close the door, and FORGET ABOUT IT- get yourself another combo tool or an appropiate wrench fr the gas plug and carry that with you- and get a ratchet brush somehow

I love the Otis multi-gun system. Fits in your pocket, and does everything common pistol and rifle, plus a 12gauge cleaner.

The initial cleaning involves a process of stripping off the packing grease and requires solvent or degreaser. After that, metal is oiled to prevent rust, and some moving parts are greased with automotive grease. The gun isn't that picky about products, but should be lubricated, cleaned and relubed periodically. Grease picks up dirt, sand and metal particles that produce friction and wear.

The barrel and chamber are chrome plated, and fairly low maintenance. I wouldn't go too crazy on barrel cleaning after the initial cleaning.

Thanks a lot guys for the great info. Luckily I work at a large car dealership so I have access to all of the greases and brake cleaner :) I'll be grabbing some stuff tomorrow than back to the torturous wait

that's the LAST thing you want to admit on here- you're going to acquire all kinds of " friends" - the kind that" can you get me a deal on this?" or i need a 55 gal drum of white lithium

... so I'm willing to spend some money on good tools.

My suggestion: buy a generic kit with the brushes and stuff in it, but buy three extra things:

1. Cheap Lithium grease. Some people swear by a brand, but I bought a $1.99 small tube from Princess Auto: works great. The M305 loves to have a very thin film of it.

2. Cheap extra patches for swabbing the bore: kits don't come with enough. Generic stuff is fine.

3. A single, very good, one piece solid rod designed for 30 calibre barrels with the bore guide . I have a "Pro Shot" and find it is really nice; i would prefer a T handle on top, but no biggie.

Them's my 2 cents...

you make your patches out of old bed sheets- no need to buy- something for the kids to do when your cheap walmart sheets go south- just don't use coloured as you won't be able to see when the bore is clean- they're called four by twos for a reason- can be either linen or flannel- the real thing is flannel

Dam I didn't expect this much feedback :D Once again thanks everybody for the help. I'm shopping online right now for a good cleaning kit and the options seem endless.. Im probably going to swing by a gun store tomorrow and compare the online prices with the in-store ones, anybody from Toronto/GTA can chime in on if there is a significant price difference?

LMAO who would even think to do that? regarding the dishwasher..

Reading through that though it does bring me to my next dilema.. So torn between getting an m14doc stock and a boyds walnut and doing the finish myself.. I am definitely leaning towards the old school walnut and leaving the irons, but I already have a nice zeiss conquest :s I should have ordered two of these guns

Good old CLP or froglube

i use the 7.62 otis sniper system in mine <M1A loaded) and have anothernone for 556

brand new rifle:
Degrease rifle with break cleaner or turpentine or paint thinner or kerosine or mineral spirits.
oil rifle with breakfree clp and grease the main moving parts.

After firing if not firing corrosive ammo use wipeout foaming bore cleaner and some solvent for receiver, bolt, gas system,...
Oil with breakfree clp.

Corrosive ammo requires extra steps.the czech blue/green box 308 ammo IS corrosive...
