I took a gamble on this one and snagged it off auction for a little over $100 USD. Yes, mismatched scabbard. It seems to be in good shape. From the research I've done, bayonet makers "marked their full name on bayonets between the years of 1937 - 1940/41", so I am assuming this one is earlier than 1941, and it is apparently all original, so the wood grips would also support this.

Nice set! Great price with the frog as well. I think I see the postwar marking on the frog stud if not mistaken. Love these things. Thanks for showing us!

My bayonet finally arrived in the mail. Very happy with the condition.

1939 E. Pack & Söhne K98 bayonet

1939 Clemen & Jung scabbard

unknown K98 German frog (very nice condition; stitching and rivets fully intact)

***

The scabbard reads: Clemen & Jung 1939

However, there's no serial number anywhere on the scabbard and there's no evidence that a serial number was ground off. There's also no WaA stamps anywhere on the scabbard.

There is, however, a serial number on the frog stud. Could this be the original serial number? I assume it would indicate a Yugo or Czech reissue. Strange that there's no other serial number

Also, I cannot make-out the faint maker's stamp on the frog, no matter what light I use, or how much baby powder I use.

Can anybody make out the maker in these photos? :)

Hey Claven;

Here's a few photos. I just don't see any evidence of the original serial number being ground off, and there's not too much material in the first place, though it could have been very lightly struck and then polished off? Again, "Clemen and Jung 1939" is stamped on the other side.

Clearly its a "postwar reissue" by the very fact there's a serial number on the frog stud, and it appears somebody carved their initials on the frog stud base... though who knows when that occurred. If only these things could talk! :)

{EDIT, you know, the more I stare at one of the photos, I seem to see a faint set of numbers? It could be my eyes wanting to see a number :) }

Scabbard has definitely been re-blued and re-numbered post-war. Looks more Czech than Yugo to me. The scabbard SN was likely ground. It happens.
