I'm actually a bit surprised that PO would have shipped it stateside knowing that it was not legally permitted to be re-imported into Canada...
For the record, I did ask Police Ordnance if they had the appropirate measures in place to both import and export this particular optic without hassle. They said that everything was greenlight. Why would I doubt them? Besides, I'd be shocked if there weren't Eotech 553s being exported into Canada for LEO/Mil use. So there's really no need to criticize my decission to send this out to be fixed.
After All, if an item wasn't exported out of the US illegally, why would the US DOS give Eotech grief for doing warranty repair? I think Eotech is just as annoyed about this as I and Police Ordnance are.
By the sound of it, this problem is bigger than little insignificant me in Owen Sound having a model 553. It sounds like Eotech is having bigger issues.EOTECH are having a problem with export control, which includes repairs.
They are working on it, and I have been told that they hope to have it
cleared up shortly.
Another irony is that the US seems to be tracking every 'scope going to Canada, but loses track of hundreds of thousands of weapons supplied to Iraqi and Afghan forces. What a pile of steaming horses**t.
