Well I was out of work and was running a little low on cash so I sold a few guns. One of them was my XD9. Loved that gun. I start another decent paying job on monday so I figured I would head into the gun shop and pick up another pistol. Checked out everything I was interested in and ended up buying a S&W 1911PD. It is my first .45 and first 1911. The Kimber I was eyeballing was a very close second. It was a tough call so hopefully this one is trouble free. The balance is so nice. Just have to get used to releasing the slide. Not as easy as my xd9 was.

Called the cfo to get my temp att and they had the machine on saying they were closed...at 2pm. Not sure what that was about, so hopefully I can pick it up tomorrow and hit the range in the morning.

Excellent reasoning imho! And then post a review with pics.

As for the slide I always over the top manually release a 1911. Not hitting the slide stop. Just good muscle memory for tap & rack. It also may help reduce wear on the knotch but that is just speculation.

Enjoy! I am gonna go pull my Colt and and buff her up!

Wont have it until tomorrow. Well I hope I can get my temp att tomorrow. Here it is off the website. With the short barrel it has awesome balance.

If you are using a two handed hold, just flick down the slide release with your weak hand thumb.

Racking the slide for reloads will slow you down.

Even if you shoot strong hand only, just release the slide with your weak hand's thumb immediately after ramming home the fresh mag.

I do that with my xd and a few other guns but with all the 1911's I was playing with today I was having a hell of a time trying to get them to release.

Perhaps you can try an "extended" slide release", or practice a little more with the standard release.

I do not like the extended slide releases because they can sometimes be too easily activated accidentally, i.e. your slide is locked back at inopportune moments.

Well went out and shot it today along with the rifle. The .45 shoots greats. Nicely balanced and the slide realease wasnt an issue today. Once in my hands and I owned it I wasnt afraid to scratch it. Just needed to put a little ass into it and away she goes. The recoil from it was alot less then I thought it would be. Honestly it wasnt much of a change from my xd9. Of course the single stack mag is nicer to load and I sure like the way it is layed out. The holes are perfectly lined up with each round so I can actually tell how many rounds I have in it. I could never really tell with the double stack 9mm mags.

All in all if someone is thinking of buying one I would say go for it. I will post pics in a bit. But it is the same as the pic.

I own one and it's been an absolute joy, it is my FAVORITE pistol in my collection (the exact one in the picture BTW).

People who tried the gun love the trigger, and the target sights (some models come with night sights) are awesome.

Started shooting ipsc with it. 4000 rounds the recoil spring was a bit mushy so i upgraded an added a full length guide rod. ZERO issues with the external extractor.

My only complaint is the finish is kinda fragile, scratches easier than my other guns. But that only hurts because i love it so. Still, great bang for the buck (I didn't pay alot for it new).

Enjoy!!!

if you aren't competing its a non issue and no it isn't any slower

depending on your level of training and the type of shooting you do. Using the release is bad form.

Whatever method you decide on, don't install an extended slide release. They compromise reliability.
