I managed to find a decent Swiss M1906/29 leather holster close in date to my non-refurb M1906/29 Luger, so I now have a complete rig - yay!

Pistol is dated 1944, holster is dated 1945. Both mags have brown baseplates to match the grips (grips and mag bottoms came in three colors: black, brown and reddish-brown).

Sadly, decent Swiss leather is about the same cost as decent german luger leather

VERY happy with this setup :)

A very nice outfit.

The 5-inch barrel is really the cat's meow, though!

I have heard some pretty awesome things about the standard of accuracy of the Swiss Lugers but I have never had the opportunity to try one myself. How does it shoot?

Also, how would you rate it for feeding problems or the lack of them, especially as compared to a standard P.08? My experience is all with the P.08 and I find that they seem to like loads a bit on the stiff side, even with a properly-fitting magazine.

Thanks for showing this one. There aren't very many.

Honestly Smellie, this one has been for looking, fondling and collecting - I've not shot it. If I ever broke a part, I would turn a $2600 matching rig (including the mags and holster) to a $1500 "shooter".

I have a lot of other handguns that I DO shoot and are a lot more replaceable!

PS: If anyone is green with envy, P&S has one for sale at $2300 (one mag, no holster). AFAIK, it's the last one for sale at a dealer anywhere in Canada. When it's gone, "value" will cease ot be a dealer banchmark and become "what people are willing to pay". Funny how that works ;)

Claven2,

Congratulations on finding your Swiss leather.

I think that you are wise not shooting it.
If a numbered part were to break....it changes the game. (As you suggested.)

I would think that you have plenty of other guns to shoot.

I think all pistols should have correct leather and magazines if possible.

Although not Swiss, I have two S/42 Lugers 1937 and 1938 dated each with two matching magazines....I would never shoot them for the same reasons.

Some guns are collector pieces and some are shooters....and it is important to recognize the difference.

Claven2 your Luger looks great in that leather.

I can always appreciate tracking down the correct holster or other accessories for nice collectible pistols.

Cheers,
-Steve

Very nice indeed. RUAG still makes ammunition for it. Pistolen Patrone 03 is still in production for the army (but only in very low numbers and only for targetshooting)

Go ahead and shoot it.
