Bought a Parker-Hale M81 Classic [hard to find and much better looking, IMHO, than the 1200's or the Safari Deluxe] here on the EE some time ago. This is my 5th or 6th PH in this chambering....all have shot well, but this one gave me some grief at first. After some trial [and error] I decided that there was a bedding problem, even though it had been bedded by someone previously. So I rebedded it and made sure the barrel was not touching the forestock anywhere. Bingo!! Made a shooter out of this one too. Nicest part is the rascal shoots the 180 Partition, the 195 Chinchaga bonded and the 200 Partition within ½" of one another, and the groups are fabulous. I have posted a couple of groups shot today with it.
180 Partition, WLRM Primer, WW 300 Win Mag brass [reformed] 79.0 gr H1000 Group is .48"

195 Chinchaga, WLRM primer, WW 300 Win Mag Brass, 77.0 H1000. The two circles drawn inside the group here are holes made by 2 200 Partitions on another target, showing how close they shoot. 3-shot 195 gr group is .63"

Nice. VERY nice. The 308NM is my favorite 30 cal magnum:) and in my favorite bolt action, a Schultz & Larsen. The best group I've got with my 'Schultz' is a five shot group of 1.061", scratch one as a flyer;), 0.722". This was shot at 100yds using the 200gr Sierra SBT and IMR 4350. I'm in the process of working up loads using Barnes TTSX and testing a few different weights. Congrats on your load and your shooting. Well done.

Thanks Johnn. The 308 NM has always been my favorite "big" 30 as well. About 25 Elk, and a goodly number of moose will attest to it's effectiveness in the field. :D The only thing I did to this one [besides the bedding] was throw away the original recoil pad and install a Decelerator. Makes it very tolerable to shoot. Someone prior to me had kindly installed a Timney trigger so it is completely ready for the 2009 season now. Regards, Eagleye.

them Partitions might bounce off an elk or moose............better switch to something better :D

nice shootin Dave, looks great

I always thought the 308 NM was the one on which all the others should have been based - 7mm to 358. Mind you - the Remington and Winchester storms would not exist.
There are no flyers in a 1.061 five shot group - it is still well within a MOM (Minute of Moose).

My .308 NM FN Safari has a 1-12 twist and puts 150gr Hornadys in one hole at 100 yards with a 71.5gr charge of IMR 4350 The 180's prefered H-4831 but still MOA Harold

:)Good one. And as Moose is my favorite big game animal, I've got to remember that:cool:.

That's the same as the first 308NM I had:) but once I saw my first Schultz & Larsen, I 'needed' one;). If anyone's interested, PM me and I'll send a scan of the target with the reload info. I'd post it but those 'skills' haven't materialised yet. My Schultz is 1-10 twist.

Thanks, Mark, I don't think we need to worry about any "bouncing" Partitions. We have so many great bullets available today----never had it so good, but as you well know, the Partition has stood the test of time. BTW, Great Elk Video!! It's so exciting, even to watch. I was worried you might get busted by that spiker.
mbogo3; I have never shot a 150 from a Norma Mag, but I'll bet the 150 Barnes TSX would be one deadly projectile from this chambering. Should be good for about 33-3400 fps.
I have used some 165's, but if I was to choose one bullet to shoot exclusively in the 308 Norma, it would be in that 195-200 grain area except for solid copper bullets, where a bit lighter weight would fly. I have some 168 TTSX's here. Later I will see if I can make them shoot in this rifle. Regards, Eagleye.

With my Dad's Husqvarna '06 and it's 1-12 twist and my Schultz & Larsen in 308NM with it's 1-10 twist, for my 'transition' to Barnes, I picked up a selection;) of Barnes TSX & TTSX from 130gr to 168gr. Bottem line, what ever shoots the best is what I'll be going with. Similar plan for my 7x61 S&H. In the '06, to date my best accuracy results have been with a Sierra 165gr or the 180gr SBT pushed by IMR 4350. In my 308NM my best results have been with, again, a Sierra SBT, but at 200grs and using IMR 4350.

I used the old 150gr Hornady interlocks on deer and they held together fine.Shot flat as PI$$ on a plate and deer just vanished out of the scope .Never tried it anything bigger as I used my .338 WM.....................Harold
