My APEX Competition Action Enhancement Kit came today. I was a little nervous installing it myself, i have about 3 weeks total experience with hand guns but i can watch a video, take notes and repeat what i saw. The videos posted on YouTube by Randy were great.

All in all it took me about 1 hour to install and that is including putting it all back together and testing after every component. WOW what a differance this thing made on my M&P 9, my grouping improved instantly and the trigger feels soooo much better now. I had a stock 10 lbs. pull on it so with it now being sub 3 it feels like there is no resistence at all.

I just wanted to post and see if anyone else out there put this in, if they have any problems with it and also to brag about this killer trigger :D

Nice! Just got my M&P last Thursday, and this is one of the planned upgrades, though I was planning on going with the Carry kit, which puts it at 5.5 lbs pull (I think)... I also wanted to install the Forward Set Sear Kit, to help reduce the pre-travel too

I bought the duty/carry kit, the RAM kit and the failure resistant extractor. So far just installing just the USB made a big difference. No gritty takeup, no false reset and took 1/2 lb. of the trigger pull. 6 1/2 to now just under 6. Just the one part. Next will be the sear, sear spring, trigger spring and the RAM. That should give me about 5 1/2 lb. pull and a great reset. It's my wifes and a JG model, pink grips and all. Really like the Warren tactical rear with the F/O front. If I really wanted to I could change out the pink medium insert for the black one if I go alone but I don't bother......

Yea, this trigger/action is awesome, it really has me looking at getting the RAM and FRE i'm not 100% sold on the FSS because i kinda like the pre-travel due to the light trigger pull.

M&P stock trigger 10lbs? Isn't it ~6 lbs? Personally I always liked M&P's trigger to me it felt very light as it is (on a couple guns I've owned)

I put the the Competition Kit into my PRO and the trigger pull dropped to 2.75#s. The RAM also was installed and really didn't do much.

I installed the FSS Kit on a friends gun and the gun ended up with a 3# trigger with no pre-travel and a very fast reset. Both upgrades put you in Standard Division for IPSC. The Competition Kit is allowed in IDPA SSP Division. The FSS trigger Kit puts you in ESP Division as the new trigger is an external modification.

I got tired of the mushy trigger on my M&P9 as well, and have the DCAEK kit, RAM and FRE on the way from Brownell's now. I should have everything this week. Really looking forward to having a better trigger action... good to hear you've had a good experience with it!

I really have, fast forward a week and about 1500 rounds later i still think its the best thing since sliced bred. Very straight forward installation too, just make sure to watch Randys videos and you should be fine. I had 0 experience before installing mine and it only took about an hour. The hardest part for me was getting the sear housing out but just take your time and be patient and she will come out.

Hey Bob, just out of curiosity, how'd you manage to get your hands on the FSS kit? It's about 160$ on Brownells? I hear it makes the trigger very close to a 1911 trigger, how did you find it?

NOoooooooooooOOooooooo! Got my DCAEK kit in from Brownell's today... the freaking thing is missing 2 of the more important components -- the hard sear and the trigger return spring. *sigh* I was on a gun-work roll tonight too -- mounted the scope on my girlfriend's new target rifle, dropped my SKS into its new Tapco stock, then was sitting down to drop the DCAEK into my M&P when I noticed that there didn't seem to be enough parts in the kit. :(

The FSS Kit was purchased by a friend of mine who has a US address. I installed it for him. Great piece of kit. He plans to shoot the gun in IPSC Standard Division and IDPA ESP Division. There is no pre-travel and the reset is just a tad shorter than my Competition Kit and very crisp.

To each his own. I prefer my Trojan for ESP even though the FSS Trigger is very nice nothing beats a 1911 trigger....but the FSS trigger is very close.

Well, I must say: Holy. Awesomeness.

So... to continue from my last posts in this thread, I contacted Brownell's about the missing sear and trigger return spring. In very short order I received an email from Sandy at Brownell's with a forward of the whole email chain, both internally at Brownell's and their conversation with Apex Tactical, promising to send me the missing parts.

Well... they arrived today, a little over a week later (not bad for ground mail from California to Ontario!), along with a note from Claire at Apex Tactical apologizing for the inconvenience -- and they sent along an Apex Tactical pen as a freebie.

So I did a bit of gunsmithing tonight and installed both the DCAEK and RAM kits (I have the FRE as well, but don't have a punch small enough to install it, so it's sidelined for now), and I must say... I am SERIOUSLY impressed. Why S&W didn't just include these parts from the factory is beyond me, because the improvement they offer is incredible, at least based on the dry firing with snap caps I did post-install. S&W should seriously just contract Apex Tactical to provide the parts, factory-install them, whack another $100 or whatever onto the price of the gun, and call it the M&P Version 2, and ship it out, new and improved.

So, in summary:

S&W really missed the ball in terms of having a decent trigger pull and reset from the factory. Given that everything except the RAM is a 1:1 swap for factory parts, there's no excuse not to have just made better parts in the first place.

Brownell's has awesome customer service.

Apex Tactical has awesome customer service and an amazing product. If you own an M&P and DON'T have their stuff in your gun.... GET YOUR ASS IN GEAR AND ORDER THEM! :p

RAWR! Necro thread is back from the dead!!

Installed the Apex Tactical Competition Action Enhancement Kit in my M&P 9mm today. I went from a gritty, 6lb trigger to a smooth as silk 2lb 9oz trigger. I did not mix and match Apex and S&W springs. Trigger weight is exactly as advertised.

The trigger almost floats back to the point where the sear is engaged, and once engaged the trigger breaks like a glass rod. It's smooth and crisp, and VERY predictable.

If you have an M&P that you use as a range or competition gun, you NEED this kit. Seriously, why are you still reading this? Go to the Brownells website and order it.
