Got my bear!!!

Well I am proud to say that I have shot my first animal, ever. Yesterday at 6:30pm I harvested a Vancouver Island Black Bear.

Now the details:

Me, dad and our neighbour (Marba) headed up a logging road that we spotted a couple bears before. At the begging on the road we spotted a nice size bear. So we decide to bail out of the truck and walk up on foot. We got to a turn in the road and I said "This is it, im taking him". So I get up on a slash pile and get "in the zone". Then the bear starts running, and all of a sudden he stops and turns, giving me the ultimate broad side shot. Bang. Bear drops with one shot.
After we get up there Marba sees another bear chaining (running) away from us, so he takes a shot and misses. One bear tonight is beter then no bear at all.

So we figured the shot was atleast 250 yards, I plugged him right through the solders pushing 180grain Nosler Partition in 30-06sprg.

Bear measured out to be 4' 10", which is alsmost exaclty the size of bear I wanted. Which is good cause I turned down 4 bears this spring. We estimate the bears weight to be around the 200 lbs mark.

Ok, if the rifle in the third pic is yours, why are you holding someone else's bloody rifle in the first 2 shots?

BTW, congrats and nice shooting. A little one like that, this time of year, should be some good eating.
 
i noticed the ammo pack on the side is moving on ya. a simple fix is to undo the recoil pad and stuff a little under there and tighten it down then put a small cut in the bottom for the sling nub to go thru. i know mine drove me nuts floppin around.

and oh ya... NICE BEAR

Because I left mine in the truck (I know it wasnt a good idea). Too excited, had to get up there fast.

Just a hole for the swivel stud is plenty.It will saty put.


Nice bear, I am hoping my wife will take one next week. I got one early this year, may 5th, it was a small one around 120-125 but still the biggest one I have ever shot.
 
Nice bear congratulations. I'm happy for you. Nothing wrong with getting a little excited. If you are stone-cold about hunting, there's something wrong with you.

A quick reading of B.C.'s hunting regulations makes it clear that it is unlawful to kill wildlife except grizzly bear, cougar and fur bearers other than a black bear and fail to remove the edible portions and the loins to the person's normal dwelling place or to a meat cutter.

In other words you have to take the meat.
 
There was another guy on here asking what parts he took because he hadn't hunted bears yet.

If a guy has hunted at all you'd think he'd have read the regs.

With back handed comments like this towards newbies it is no doubt that so many new hunters are getting discouraged and leaving the sport. :rolleyes:

Also define edible portions?

Aside for the loins it isn't covered in the course manual, or the regs.
And every hunter I have asked so far as a different version of what they think is edible. And some are professional butchers as well.
 
"The edible portions of the four quarters and loins" is the actual wording.

It means the meat.

Where did this come from?

As a hunter I do know the regs about the species I am hunting.


So if you want to start a pissing match, go right ahead....:onCrack:
 
If you guys are crying over the BC regs. well CRY.The young fellow is posting a thread about his first bear.YES ,he took the meat .I personal skinned the bear for him.So, if you want to pat the young fellow on the back ,GREAT.Or ,do you want to Badger a young hunter ,who is starting to hunt.
