Got him in Zone 50 with my Savage Precision 10 in .308. Used my favourite reload 165gr Hornady SST. The rut is just starting now, I have been hunting this guy for 4 days and he finally made a mistake which was to my advantage. He dressed out at 458lbs on the hook.

Thanks Guys

What....I was told you need a super duper ultra short mag to kill an elk.. are you sure you shot it with a .308..lol I was up in Bjorkdale and talked with the local butcher....guess its a steller year for elk up there, most shops are full and aren't processing any elk.

Cheers!!

Yeah thanks Zuk for posting the pic for me, I don't post enough pics to be proficient at it....LOL, I have been hunting this guy for 4 days as he has been eluding me. He has been herdg approximately 11-13 cows and calves and also had a little spiker with the bunch. However the rut has not yet really started, however yesterday I spotted 3 cows yesterday morning heading on to one of my fields that my renter has barley on, then slipped into the bush. I tried calling and finally got a response from him, I then set my self up for an intercept, by following the bush line which was down wind from the herd. He then tried to slip out, heading downwind across my field where I double lunged him at 150 yards while he was on a trot. He went about 50 yards and was done. A buddy of mine that has a meat processing business was on standby to help out and promptly arrived to get him to the cooler, thanks to Chris. We had some tenderloin last night and it was excellent, new we can enjoy.
