Got my first deer!

Well done! I'm old and I still get the adrenaline rush. Every time.

I'm not even going to ask, but I thought I was old getting into this. Turning 46 next week. I think I may have already forgotten how much work it really was and am looking forward to next year already!

well i went to print off my tag and it didn't even load in a tab on the browser, and when i went in with something other than chrome, it says it has already been printed
ffs
i have the summary with the scannable picture of the tag QR code and the license number but not the actual tag
and of course their support is closed as of 5pm and not open again until tomorrow at 830 when i'll be in a blind
i guess if i get one i'll be attaching my summary while sitting on the phone waiting for them to unlock my tag for printing...

Same thing happened to me. I walked into my local Service Ontario and had them re-print my tag. I wasn't the only one there doing the same. I waited 2 hours on the phone before driving into town.

Shot him with a crossbow with a pain old broadhead. Rifle doesn't open until Monday here, but I did plan on using my BCL102. Not a fan of liver, but I did keep it and the heart in case I found someone who does want it. I'm exhausted (I think I'm getting a cold too) and I still have one rear quarter to go.

Eat the heart and the liver.

Nicely done - and with a crossbow no less.

I like taking deer with archery equipment. It's like going back to the basics!! You have to pay extra attention to so many issues (scent control, camo, movement etc) Whitetails are especially nervous creatures.

Awesome Man, Congrats!

once you chill out, would be good to hear your story of the events leading up to the shot!
cheers from Australia

Thanks again to all. And only because you asked ;)

Honestly, you really couldn't get much easier for a first time. I happen to have a 5 acre lot in the country. Lots of treed land around. For just over a month, I had been watching various deer out of my kitchen window. Lots of does/fawns, but the game camera was starting to reveal some bucks. In a two week span I had 3 thousand pictures and they weren't all leaves and chipmunks! Regularly, I had started to notice a couple of spike horns. Then the one I got started to show up with them. After a couple of missed opportunities, the day finally came. Around 4pm, there they were, all three and the 4 pointer was broadside in the yard. I get the crossbow and step quietly onto the deck of my bedroom and take the shot. I missed and they all took off into the bush. I was embarrassed and kind of upset with myself. I don't miss, ever. Especially 20 yards away with a target the side of a barn in the scope. I figured it must have been adrenaline but it also it felt like something went wrong with the bow. It turned out that I was too close to the house and one of the limbs hit the siding. After supper, with about 10-15 minutes of legal light left, all three came back. Back out I go and I made sure to get an extra step from the house. I fired, but wasn't entirely sure I succeeded. Out the whole family goes. My wife found the bolt with the slightest amount of blood on the shaft. All of us, flashlights in hand as it was getting dark fast, head out to find what I initially though was a wounded deer. I was fortunate that my son found the buck around a hundred yards from the house in no shape to carry on. My son still has a big $h!t eating grin about finding it and even helped me butcher. We're fortunate to have the same birthday and it lines right up to deer season. Very cool to share that with him and all my tribe. My wife even helped me load it on the 4wheeler and I know for fact she didn't really want to be there. Damn special lady I have. As the old line goes, "then the work begins". I had a friend on speed dial to help me gut it ( thank goodness ). The best part of all of this? I got to share my moment. With my family and all of you. I may also have a future hunter or two in the works. I can only imagine the stories to come. Next week, I have off and on Thursday is my son's and my birthday. Me thinks we're going looking for birds. Next year will be different I think. I'd like to get a tree stand and scout a spot. We'll see.
