Got my first SVT40 in the mail, is lots of pitting normal for these things?(big pics)

Just got one from a vendor on here . near mint barrel/ reciever excellent stock (couple nicks and 1 spot where varnish flaked off about the size of an aspirin . I got a non matching mag from an svt 38 that is very pitted . maybe a wrongly installed rivet as it holds four rounds . I did not like the plum/red bolt . I used commercial vinegar and a polishing wheel at work , now it is a very bright and chrome looking . don't mind losing value looks way better.

Update: I disassembled it as far as i could go without tools and found the pitting is limited to the bolt cover and magazine only. The rest of it looks like its in excellent shape...although the bore looks questionable, like i said in my op i hope its mostly dirt. I think i will simply try to source a new bolt cover and magazine to solve the problems, simple fix and it doesn’t permanently modify the rifle. Although iv heard that a mag for these can cost $100-$200...if thats the case i think i will buy another SVT-40 and request one with a mag in good shape.

I have also decided to just leave the bolt bluing the way it is.
