Just got off the phone with a very lovely woman at Frontier Firearms putting my first rifle a Savage Mark II Mako .22lr on layaway until my license comes in. Also can't wait for that(it's in the snail mail currently). I've already bought a scope and I am about to order some Burris Signature Zee rings from Mysticplayer on here. All that is left to do is wait and by lots of .22 ammo. I know some of you will say you don't like the look of the Mako but beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I couldn't be more thrilled lol. Sorry for the rant but Im pretty pumped right about now haha. I shall keep you posted

You should be able to call the CFC and get your PAL number over the phone, then complete the transfer with the number alone. You don't need the PAL in your hand unless Frontier want to see it for a local pick up.

I think it depends on who you talk to. I got mine over the phone but I have heard of many people not being able to get it. Either way no harm in trying.

Quick question. Do I have to wait for the reg papers to come in the mail before I go out to shoot it? That would suck. Also should I be cleaning the rifle once I get it? Just the bore with some patches or will there be stuff on the outside I should clean off too? Thanks guys.

I just got my own Mark II as well, awesome stuff.

I have noted the stock feels much inferior to the one on my 93GL. Very light, but that's ok, it'll be the base of a fiberglass build. Go-go tacticool! :D

You do not need the registration papers to arrive, before shooting. As long as you have the printout from CFC containing the reg. number, or the docs that the gun store gave you.

On cleaning, .22 barrels/bores do not need to be cleaned after every range trip. Clean them only when accuracy deteriorates appreciably. Use only one piece rods, cloth patches and a bore guide to prevent unnecessary wear to the bore from the rod touching. Clean bolt guns from the breech, but semi autos usually need to be cleaned from the muzzle, hence the need for bore guide. I've shot more than 500 rounds between cleanings with no detrimental effect.

Cleaning too often just wears out your bore prematurely, in my opinion. As well, newly cleaned bores do not group well until some fouling has been deposited.

New barrels need cleaning just to make sure you do not have any obstructions and to clean out any excess lubricant/preservative in the bore. So go ahead and clean your new bore. Make sure it is dry when you shoot.

Wipe down the external surfaces with light solvent like kerosene, then wipe down all metal surfaces with any gun oil dampened soft non-abrasive cloth. I'd spray the bolt areas that slide within the receiver with a very light coat of gun lube as well, and let the solvent evaporate.

Just the answer I was hoping for haha, thanks for answering the question in it's entirety. Now I just have to continue waiting till it gets here. I'm very impatient and this is not very easy.

I've been told this by gun stores and friends, but never found an authoritative link supporting it.
Does anyone have one?

I just got a number handwritten on a piece of paper which I think he called a transfer number of something (in case the cops stopped me and found the gun in the truck). Instead I took it out shooting at the gravel pit and got "stopped" by a conservation officer who just wanted to make sure I wasn't hunting. Told him the gun was brand new (only 2 days old) and my registration hadn't come in yet. I handed him my PAL and the piece of paper and told him it was the transfer number. That was fine enough for him.

BTW congrats on getting a Savage Mark II! I love mine and just picked up a second mag today for it!
