I replaced the factory slide release/stop on my G17 for an extended version because I thought it was "small". I haven't had any issues with the extended but my son sometimes trips it with his thumb.....dropping the slide on an empty mag. Took me a while to figure it out:redface:
I've found racking the slide using the "sling shot" method works better (for me) and may swap back the factory one.

Nice gun! Is it a regular 21 or a 21SF?
I have the 21SF, which is still a big gun. About the slide release, mine was SO stiff when I got it. I thought it was going to be impossible to ever release it. But after a hundred or so rounds, it gets easy to release.

I don't want to put an extended one on it because I have a high grip, and often I have the nasty habit of gripping the slide release during firing, so my 1911 and Glock occasionally don't lock back and more than half the time, both my Sig Sauers don't either.

But yeah, shoot the hell out of it, wait for it to loosen up before swapping things out!
 
Nice gun, i will say that its hard to hold on to with out some nice grip tape. At least thats how i found mine, im liking my G17 Gen 4 right now, but seriously considering a G21 Gen 4.

It's a regular G21. I find the grip, although large, to fit quite nicely. The Slide Release loosened up after 150 rds but I'm still planning on putting the extended Release on it. If it doesn't jive it will end up on EE.

The glock "slide catch" is really only there to hold the slide back

It would serve you better too rack the slide instead of releasing the catch ;)
