I stopped at a gun store on the way through Quesnel a few weeks ago to look at pellet guns of all things and a used Ruger No. 1 in 375 H&H caught my eye. That rifle in that calibre has always intrigued me. I really couldn't give myself a good enough reason to take it home but maybe you could? I generally bring a 308 for mountain hunting and consider it as adequete as anything that I'm willing to drag up and down hills for a few days for wildlife defense. For an actual bear hunt, I'd pick a cartidge with a little more horsepower behind it, especially if you're thinking about the possibility of stretching out 300 yard shots. I wouldn't want to do that hunt with a 308, would reluctantly use a 30-06, 300WM, 308 Norma Mag, etc. but I think I'd rather have that little bit more certainty that I'm not going to be tracking a wounded and go with a 200+ grain bullet and a larger cartridge/calibre like a 338WM, 375, etc. It sounds like a great excuse to shop for some artillary? Good luck!
