Got my M14 (M1A) Boyd's Oiled Walnut Stock...

The handguard is still at Boyd's!! They sell them separately. Maybe the picture showed a gun with both pieces installed, but I've ordered a couple from them and the handguard was always priced as a separate part.

The walnut stock with a plastic handguard doesn't look bad at all.

I guess I'm a total dumbass... but I can't find them listed on Boyd's website. Looks like I'm going to be painting a stock plastic one brown.

I did. No response yet. As a precaution, I just purchased a brown Norc plastic handguard from Marstar. It will look fine with the Boyd's stock.

Once I get the Boyd's stock all kitted-up, I will have two types of skins for my M305: one for field use (glass) and one to look at :) and for range use. I have to say that the grain on my oiled Boyd stock is darn nice. Will post pics once its all complete.

An Ultimak would look good and offer some optic mounting,

I don't know if anyone has stock but I recall mention of some guys getting them in Canada....I'd try direct or Brownells.

FYI, no wood handguards from Boyd's:

"Dear Kurgan, I apologize for the picture at the top of the page showing a handguard. We don’t offer the handguard for the M1A. Your order was for the stock only"

The Boyds stocks are supposed to be beefier, does the standard M14 hardware fit? I am really interested in one myself.

So far all the hardware fits perfectly. I still haven't pryed off the ferrule yet, though I suspect it will fit. I would say that my Boyd stock is LESS beefier than the Chu-wood stock, and only slightly beefier than my USGI fibreglass stock. For $100, you can't go wrong with a nice military-style oiled walnut M1A stock!

I tossed the barrel/receiver in today to see how it fits, and it fell in without a hitch. My bedded fibreglass stock is a tighter fit as you would expect, but the wood is tight enough for most applications. Overall, I am quite happy with this Boyd stock.

You might want to find a cheap or FREE factory Chu-wood stock to harvest the metal bits from. I recall seeing a free Chu-wood stock with all the metal bits for free on EE. ;)
