I have been having trouble getting my Crosman Fury (1000+ fps) to shoot good groups. I read on an airgun forum somewhere that this gun doesn't like "dead air". Dead air is the air space between the air transfer port on the breach of the rifle and the pellet. I had been loading this gun the same way I load my other springers, by pushing the pellet in to the breach as far as the pad of my thumb would push it, then closing the barrel and blasting away. I had always pushed the pellet in as far as possible in order to preclude any lead shaving off the skirt of the pellet when I closed the breach. The tolerances on the Fury are as tight as any european made springer. I now push the pellet in just enough so that it is fully seated by the breach when the breach is closed. The barrel closes with a fine metallic click with absolutely no play whatsoever, and smoothly enough that the action of closing the barrel will seat the pellet to exactly the same location every time(close it slowly!). There is a fine line between pushing it in too far, and not enough so it shaves lead. Took about half a dozen shots to figure the depth out. The results are unbelievable!! One hole groups at 25 meters with wadcutters. Before I tried the seating depth idea, I tried Gamo match, Beeman match, and Stoeger X-Match. I couldn't get a pellet to group under 1.5" at 20 meters. Now the darn thing shoots like a laser beam. Just had to share the good news. Now I have to do something about the horrible trigger...
