Well, I recently bought a 580 series mini-14 off the EE. This is the blued/wood model. Pretty well new conditon with an extra Choate folding stock ( Which I may be selling soon), bag of brass and scope mount. Got it for a good price.
I took it out to the range this weekend and overall, I am pretty happy with it.

As far as the barrel heating up, make sure you have another mini, ie., mini-30 or even the 6.8 SPC handy so you can shoot them alternately- end of heating problem

b) yeah, the cases go far but they usually end up in a nice pile making them easy to retrieve

c) Seriously, can you post some pics of the case necks? I would like to see how badly crushed they are.

I don't know if you reload but try some vmax bullets by Hornady if you want to improve the accuracy more

Congratulations on your mini. The main problem you will have with it is getting your friends to give it back to you so you can shoot it too.

i was there for the first range trip with cote_br and this MINI and it was a great gun....yes it does lauch brass almost as far as my AG-42....i got scared a few times when he was shooting it and i was shooting on the right after i heard a few scorching hot cases whiz past my head and riccochet off the lockers at the end of the shooting hut with enough force that some of them went right out the front onto the range:eek: we had to go into the snow to get the brass back after we were done shooting....;)

i will snap some pics of the brass fired from this gun and post them up....case mouths get dented up pretty bad....

If you get you hands on an adjustable gas block if may solve both the problems of crushed neck and throwing the brass so far. Supposedly the trick is to turn it down so it will just cycle the action reliably. I have read a couple threads on The High Road that said they improved accuracy as well. Have fun!!!!

You can get an adjustable gas block from Brownells for about $100.

I put one on my mini for the same reasons. I ended up doing alot to that rifle and it ended up being a pretty decent shooter..... Ahhh seller's remorse!

Crap! I just looked it up on Brownells and I see that the price has gone up! Now I'd need a permit to get it in and I guess that means I will never make another rifle up like it!

Noooo......

Exemption to Canada is $500 not $100

From the brownells website

An Export License is required for all Gun Part orders exceeding $100 (U.S.). Export licenses are issued by the U.S. State Department and may take between 30 and 40 days to receive. An Export License is will be required for each order.

First time I've heard of this $500 exemption for Canada, all the stuff I've read here on CGN says $100.00 for all exports. Can you provide a source, #1bcshooter as I am very curious now.

This is right off Numrich web site

Well, hopefully this is true because it will mean savings on shipping for me!

I have been ordering twice a week from Brownells, keeping the gun parts under $100!

*EDIT*

If Numrich would only get an easier to shop website I might just end up making $500 orders there!

Numrich dose charge a $25.00 charge on top of normal shipping for orders coming to Canada no matter what the total is up to $500.00 But at least they still ship !
Not that hard to order from . I just pick out what I want on there site , write down part # & phone them

good choice on keeping the wood stock! dump that folder.

i got a stainless one i picked up from a member here, im extremly happy with mine, but you have a nicer rear sight. ill pick one up eventually. only other thing i really want for it is an ultimak scout mount, but have yet to find a retailer who shipd em north of the border.

Brownells told me they could ship the ultimak to canada no problem. I have also seen them on ebay from time to time with a note saying that they ship to canada.

I agree that the wood stock is nicer but I suggest hold on to the folder. I have a folder specifically for camping. I camp in remote areas and with the folder, the rifle fits nicely into my bag. Folders are convenient for the option to shrink the size for carrying in the wilderness. For what you would get for it used, it is well worth keeping. Mine is a butler with metal butt.
