Got my mosin today

Mark-II .... I was wondering where you got your M44? I only ask because I would much rather have an M44 over a "stantard" M91/30

I lucked in and found a very minty one at the Dugald gun show this spring. Unfortunately has an import etching on it (it came in to the US by the look of it). I've not seen them in any shops otherwise. They go quick, though - same dealer had a more beat up 91/59 carbine that went fast, and at Anola had another M44 that my uncle paid too much for, mistaking it for an M38 with a bayonet stuck on. There was a "sniper" version at another table in Dugald, but I don't think it sold (what with being an overpriced bubba job).

I just picked up my SVT-40 this morning from Wholesale. Very minty bore. 1940 receiver date and a 1945 dated stock - LOL
They just come with 1 pouch, a couple bits for the cleaning rod, the usual oil bottle, and she gave me an SKS sling, not having any Mosin or SVT slings (I'll use this one on my Chinese SKS to replace the rubbish sling it came with. I got a few Mosin slings from Milarm when I was in Edmonton a few weeks back).

congrats on the new purchase!!!!!! I 100% forgot about the SVT40. My collection needs to grow and I was looking for something with more "kick" then my SKS. I figured the mosin would fit that role rather nicely. But now that you reminded me of the SVT40 I find myself rethinking that decision. May I ask what the price difference between the Mosin and the SVT ?

I paid, I think, $320 for my (Russian) M44. I coud have sold it at the show a few times, judging by the interest before I got it put away. Of course tyre kicking is free so who knows.

Mine has, I think, the AVT stock (double cut out for the selector either side of the trigger guard). It's an izzy too, or at least bits are. The stock is Tula. I was going purely on bore condition. I bought a pack of patches and cleaned each one in the store. Most were either frosted or possibly just extra heavy with cosmoline, but mine and one other seemed very decent.

I'd love to find one with the proper slot on the top of the receiver for the scope. If I had the dimensions I'd consider a minor act of bubba and get my less nice one milled and get the repro scope for it.

Nice thing about these ones is no pop rivet in the mag. I assume the follower is welded.

Thanks for the post.... I did not realize there were any dealers in Winnipeg that had these in stock. I was trying to buy on last week and could not find one. now I know what I will be doing come Monday after work :)

You might be racing me there. What time do you get off work? Maybe I can leave early.;)

Shiny bore and the crown is excellent

You're killing me! Seriously good going, though.

Maybe I'll find something on my trip west this weekend. I saw several SVTs the last time that I didn't think to check out, since I had other priorities on my mind.

Nice buy, especially with the older hex!

How much roughly does a decent M38 cost over here?

Don't know about retail but there was one at the Carberry gun show last winter for north of $400. I don't think it sold. My uncle wanted to buy it, since he's sure it used to be his, but he wouldn't touch it for near that price. I guess we have to wait and see what westrifle brings in

I'm going to be a PITA there, then. Just want 1 with a bright bore and the sniper receiver, then I will be SVT'd out!

I've not cleaned the new one yet, but I'm going to go shoot my original one tonight for the first time (been guilty of not shooting it for not wanting to clean it). I forgot that my original one has the infantry stock. I bought an "SVT" sling from Marstar for it just because the mosin ones don't work well with that rear sling swivel.

The rest seemed kind of frosted to me, though. Unless it was heavy gunk. I ran several patches through all of them, save for the one YOU got ;)

In case anyone is interested, Crappy Tire Oromocto NB was filling their shelves with Mosins about two hours ago 149 bucks each...and there was a lot of em.
