got my new sig, got a question

ok i just got my new 220 match

sweet pistol, really like the feel, looking forward to shooting it

but, the slide release is really really hard to use when mag is in, to the point its almost impossible,

is this a matter of using it a bit, or is there a way to adjust this?

This is usually the case with most guns. You are fighting against the mag spring....

Not sure why you are trying, but just take out mag...

I think we have all tried puttin the mag in the gun when we first got it, you cant honestly say that you havent tried it, he is just excited to try his new gun!:p:dancingbanana:
 
have snap caps in mag, even mag out it is insanely difficult, have several other pistols, the one that was new fig 226 (norinco) wasnt even close to this difficult
, now i now thats a crappy comparison, but i was just curious

Congrats on the 220, one hell of nice gun. You don't have to use the slide release, use slingshot method to release slide by pull the slide further back and release it.

Both of my 229s were "almost impossible", right out of the box, as well. I'm not sure if it breaks in, or my finger got stronger, but its smooth as silk now.

That's not normal. It's either a problem with the magazine follower or the slide release itself.
 
With a brand new 220 you are also fighting a very strong recoil spring. I don't ; nor does Sig, recomend using the slide release button. It is much better to grab the slide with your off hand, pull back the slide and let it go forward into battery.

I wouldn't worry about it.....

just ask the gagillion Sig shooters who have rided the slide lock(typically also 1911 shooters) resulting in the slide slamming home ...

"It ain't gonna break".....the Sig

Some people fervently believe it is bad for a 1911 though.

Have you ever owned a Sig? Every single Sig I have ever handled has had a tough-as-balls slide release when the mag is empty. Don't create problems where none exist. "Impossible" may be a little bit of exaggeration on the OP's part, but they definitely are tough and that is the norm.

I wouldn't make the comment I made if it wasn't based on personal experience. The slide lock on my P226 can be released on an empty chamber without any difficulty...or at least without any difficulty for an able-bodied adult male. I can't speak for the disabled or the weaker gender.

+2. My sig's slide relase is a bit tough to do. Not to the point where I can't do it or anything, but it took a couple pushes to figure out the force needed to push them down fast.

It's not as easy as the mag release, or the decocker put it that way.

Hate to say that Sig is not a good gun then. Almost all the handgun in the market can release the slide easily with the release even with a empty mag, just ask the other cheapo gun owner like me.

I must say that I've never experienced a "tough" slide release with any P226 that I've handled. Perhaps I have a different view of what constitutes "tough" than sogetthis and nickorette, but I haven't noticed Sig's slide release being any more difficult to manipulate than, say, a 1911 or Hi-Power slide.

I just picked up (waiting for CFO, of course) a P226. If the 226 is all that I hope it is, a 220 will be next!
Did you have to order it or did someone have it in stock?

When I first got my 1911 and was changing mags I would release the slide with my strong hand thumb to release it and chamber a round from the new mag. After a very short while I realized there was more control and safety in releasing the slide by pulling it back with my support hand instead. I can't remember the last time I just dropped the slide by using the slide catch.
