Went out for a drive to my cabin to have a look for some ducks and geese and saw 3 moose just 2 mins outside town standing in a marsh on the other side of a pond. All I had was my Benelli Nova shotgun, but I had a box of Federal Tru-Ball slugs with me. I walked around the pond staying down wind and never made a sound. I got within 30 yards to them. There was a spike bull feeding not more then 15 yards from me and a cow next to him. I could see the antlers of the big bull, but couldn't get a shot. Next thing I knew, the big bull started to walk right towards me then stepped broadside. I fired the first shot and missed him over his back(my shotgun shoots slugs high for some reason...know now for next time). I was shooting downhill. Second shot was still a little high. Third shot hit him square on and he dropped like a ton of bricks!! Shot was 30 yards. My father was up the hill from me and heard the shots. He said I shot the 3 shots in under two seconds! A finishing shot to the neck was taken. Never did get to my cabin...ducks will have to wait. 1 Moose, 38 ducks, 4 grouse, and 1 rabbit so far this year!!

11 point bull -- 120 pounds per quarter

So how does the tag allocation work there? One per hunter? One per two or three? Per Zone?

Why wouldn't you drag it out of that 'wet area' and do it some place dryer?

There is a lottery type of draw, 1 tag per person, and 1 tag for partners. Either bull/calf, cow, either ###, or caribou licences. There is an application that needs to be filled out and you choose wich area you perfer to hunt, what species, and whether to hunt alone or with a partner. Your chances of getting a tag are greater if you choose to hunt with a partner.

The moose was 120lbs per quarter dressed. That's a big animal to be dragging around. That was the driest place we could get it. It worked out fine.

Congrats!

Aren't you happy that the bull was only 15 yards from you. With your shot gun missing 2 out of the three rounds, you wouldn't stand a chance if the bull was 100 yards from you. :D :D :D

I haven't really fired slugs out of my shotgun...the shot was approx 30 yards. No, I am not happy with my shooting, but I managed to figure it out in time to still bring home the meat. I was out yesterday and put a few slugs down range. I think I am going to buy a 15 round value pack of rifled slugs and spend some time at the range...I am a little dissapointed at my shooting. Maybe I wasn't aiming correctly and just pointing it like a shotgun...
