Got myself an Isrealis Mauser 7.62mm

I still have the one I got off you, Albayo, and it's a laser! Cleaned up nice!

Before you fire this rifle, check the chamber to see if its indeed for 7.62X51 (.308 Win) ammo, I've come across more than a few ex Isrealis Mauser rifle stamped with 7.62 is in fact chamber for 7.62X63 (30-06) ammo.

First I've ever heard of this - but good to know !

Never thought of the 7.62 X 63 cartredge in place of the 7.62 X 51.
Will have to check out future Israeli Mausers. I have a No-Go gage for both 308 and 30-06.
The 06 is common in some of the Mexican, and South American rifles.

I bought one about 8 yrs ago for $120.00. I gave it to one of my Boys last year. It is a 41 byf. I kept the Israeli bayonet though.

.. It should be noted that the Israeli manufactured Rifles ( FN ) did NOT have provision for the Cleaning Rod. The Metal was drilled etc.( or surplus WW2 ), but the stock itself, was not . ...... David K

Never heard of an Israeli K98 chambered for .30/06. I have seen quite a few Norwegian surrender K98k's in .30/06. The Norwegian Navy left their previously German rifles in the original 8mm chambering.
