SIN:
Since I have read this thread and am a very curious fellow and like challenges, I will offer to look at your rifle at no charge. If it is an easy fix, it will not cost you a dime.

Casey

Thanks brother.

Iam calling Remington factory directly, lets see what they have to say..if everything fails, then we can arrange something..

I appreciate you help.

Got off the phone from the sleepy guy at Remington Factory in USA, he told me to Call their agent in Quebec.

I called Quebec Guys, they have my gun serial number in file , but they dont have any record of what or if anything was done to the gun!!

Lady on the phone told me to send her email with detailed description of problems..

:(

hate to partially derail this thread, but anyone????
could someone with a 700 check their bolt please for this spot of wear?
all my 700s (3) have it, but now you guys got me all paranoid that its a 'bolt timing issue' :runaway:

Its from hard camming the bolt. Don't worry about it.

Chances are Gravel's didn't do anything to it, so never entered it into their system.

I will speculate that you have these issues:

1) Your feed-rails are too sharp, thus scratching your brass. This is nothing that 10 minutes and fine grit sand paper can't cure. I've had to do it to a couple rem 700 sps. No big deal.

2) Your front scope mount screws are too long and are touching the bolt lugs when you try to open/close the bolt. The fix is shortening the screws slightly.

3) There is debris/shavings under your extractor that need to be cleaned out.

4) Your magazine box is not seated in the action properly, and is affecting your spring and follower by making it crooked and not feeding properly. Re-adjust mag box.

5) Lawyer proof trigger needs to be adjusted. Also a 10 minute fix.

Stop fretting and have Casey (Arwen Ace) fix it up, all for the shipping cost, and it will function perfectly.

cheers!

so even if it wears further theres nothing to worry about?

whats interesting is that i worked the bolt while examining the area with a flashlight, and aside from that one spot where it hits there seems to be hardly any contact with the rear camming surfaces at all: theres nearly a mm of space between them. seems like nearly all the camming action is coming from the front of the bolt on all my 700s.

after watching this video im starting to see why bolt timing, receiver blueprinting, etc is necessary.

is this type of thing eliminated on custom actions or a blueprinted 700 action, and there is proper front+rear cam contact and no uneven wear?

This is from Ellwoodepps, they are Authorized repair centre for Remingtons, I think I will send it to them.

Sir / Madam:

We are an authorized repair depot for all Remington products. You can certainly send your gun into our store for inspection and/or repair, however we will require the following information to be sent with the gun:

your full name
your address with postal code
your telephone number with area code
a copy of your PAL license card
a copy of the Registration Certificate for the firearm(s) in question
Without this information, we cannot accept your gun(s) into our inventory.

Please include a copy of this E-mail string so that whomever receives your rifle in our warehouse will be aware of the situation.

Its none of my business but I can't help it. You have an extremely gracious offer from Arwen Ace. If it were me I would follow the steps in Blargons post above. Actually if it were me the gun would be in the mail to Arwen already but thats a good plan outlined.
