Hi guys,

Well, afer 2 days hunting, I got a nice black bear in my "backyards" :D. No big bear, about 150/155lbs but nice and dark black. I was baiting for the past couples of weeks and it paid off. It's going to the butcher tomorrow :) .

I used my Marlin 45-70govt for the first time on game, about 100ft broadside shot when he had his head in the bucket, rolled over and dropped 30ft below dead. That 400gr reload did the work good, .

This fall, I might be more patient and wait for a bigger one but today, it was not my intentions as I wanted to eat the meat and was told that younger bear in the spring is the best ;) .

Buy the way, how do you cook bear meat? I have no clues, this will be a first for me :D .

Couple of pics, not the best ones but hey, that's all Ive got :) .

You could also try slow cooker bear roast with that young tender bear. Thaw a 3-4lb roast and then melt some butter in a frying pan over medium heat. Brown the roast all over, then put in the slow cooker with a couple cups of water, a couple crushed garlic cloves & salt & pepper to taste. Simmer for about 6 hours, add chopped up onions, carrots, celery and potatoes. Simmer another hour or two and serve. Delicious :)

Way t ogo Paul , now i hope that when you talk about your back yards it is refering to the QC side of the ottawa river Riiight;)

PS bear is good just make sure you cook it to well done or longer, your local wal-mart might have a wild game cook book in the fishing section *mine had it on one of those end displays*

Yup, approx accross the river in line with Breckenridge, between the 148 and Gatineau Park, I have a small 6 acres land surrounded by farms and private property where I can hunt :) .

At first, I had the occasional deer tracks and was all crazy about it, now, I am kinda proud of how it turned out :D . It took a couple of years to lure the deers to come steady, so after a bit of work, cleaning the wood and planting wild forage and clover, water near by, they now have some trails crossing the corner of my land where I can finally hunt and be at home .

Thanks
