Got out with a Walther PPK 12.7 today - other 12-7 recommendations?

I'm in the same boat as you are. I'm always looking for something neat that's 12-7 eligible that I can save from the smelter. I know the early baby browning is on my list, as well as a luger, and a PPK. I would check out the Saur 38H neat little pistol. For its age I believe they were a bit ahead of their time. It also features a decocker and its striker fired unlike the PPK.

The H38 is not striker fired, it has an internal hammer. That "decocker" is also a Recocker. Press it down to decock, press it down again to recock.

That sig turns me on, that is nice.
I have had quite a few berretta 950 and they are a real nice gun, in 22 short and 25 acp, they are way bigger than the baby browning, I have never seen any early enough for 12-7, could be out there, will have to check my book.
I have shot the PPK in 380, not terrible, but a little goes a long ways, 32 is nice, Years ago I has a SS marked one ,2 mags & holster, all matching.
Last Switzer auction there where 2 ,I think Savage pistols, looked nice, they sold way too cheap. Not real small, but about browning 1910 size, a bit heaver I think, been a while.
Thanks TT. Yes the PPK made me realize how big those target pistols are.

Not grouse this time but definitely ducks.

Interesting, thanks. How can you tell? I should probably do a little more research.

Well the finish look really good (from the picture) so if the gun has not been refinished then its in really good condition.

Also what raise the price a lot is the finger extension + the grip.

They are worth a lot of money because of the market in the US.

PPK and PP from war are really expensive in the US.

A good ww2 or pre-war molten brown grip + finger extension can fetch more than 300$+ usd.

A magazine is worth more than 100$+ usd.

------------------------

Now here in Canada with prohibition on them they are not worth that much and you cannot export a ppk to the US. You can only sell the grip , magazine and extension, but that give you a guarantee of money back in case they are banned or there is no more 12(6) buyer.

That is why ppk and pp from pre-46 are more expensive than other 12(6) gun.

If you want more info give me the serial number and a few picture and ill pm you the year of manufacturing.

As earlier noted, I would recommend one of the Savage pocket pistols, either the 1907,1915 or 1917. 10 round double stack mags, the 1915 has a finger activated slide release which is kinda neat. Majority were made in 32, although they did make a smaller number in 380, and can commonly be found sub $200 for prohib ones. No 12.6/7 for me so i tracked down the restricted 380 ones.

I have an early 1st variation of the Model 1906 (later 'baby") Browning. Just a heads-up, the grip safety means fiddling around a bit with your grip, depending on the size of your hands. Trying to get enough squeeze on the pistol to disengage the grip safety while getting your finger to a good place on the trigger - without then having the slide bite the web of your hand when firing - takes a bit of practice.

That said, I love mine. It really 'barks' and its size always makes it a topic of conversation with the other shooters at the range.

I don't consider the earlier 1906 to be a baby Browning as it has a grip safety and the Baby does not.

The vest pocket models, ie 1908Colt, 1905 FN are quite a bit bigger than the baby browning's
If you have fat hands , BB will bit you bad, nice sharp corners.

I’ve always been enamoured with the Mauser HSc, too, although I’ve never owned one. I like the Art Deco sort of look it has.
