Got PAL approved, got PAL number, but no card

Hi i got my pal approved and issued, have my pal number. I was wondering if i can still buy a firearm with just the pal number as i was hoping to shoot some clays with my dad and granpa with my own shotgun.
 
probably not in a store, but certainly on-line, although a few places make you send them a scan copy.
 
shipping is usually the least time consuming issue. if the gun you want isn't in stock you could wait 6 or more months for some popular models. then there is the registration time by the CFO. that is like rolling the dice. they had the gun I wanted at Freedom, took a little over a week for the transfer and then a few days (over the weekend) for the delivery from Halifax.
 
Does your dad or grandpa have their own PAL? They could buy the shotgun and just give it to you when your card comes in. There is no registration for long guns so there is no ownership to transfer. And you could still shoot with them as long as you were 'supervised'.
