Well it came from selling another toy...but I'm in the market for a semi and wanted to get opinions from guys who have owned or fired the ones I am considering.

1. Benelli Super Black Eagle II

2. Beretta Xtrema II (with Kick-Off)

3. Remington 105CTi

I've been shooting Remington for the last 30 years and like them a lot...I have an 1100 that has thousands of rounds through it and with regular maintenance it's been great. A very proven gun and reliable if well taken care of. I've fired the Xtrema II and it was nice, handled a Benelli SBE II today at the local gunshop.

The new Remington is very interesting with it's double down ejection...but like any new thing I wonder about long term reliability. Especially when spending this kind of money on a semi.

Thoughts and opinions wanted and welcomed. Feel free to suggest other guns I should consider as well.

Shotgun

What is your intended use of the gun as you have a mixed cross section there now from 2 3/4" capable guns to 3 1/2".

I owned a Benelli SBE and they are great guns. Sold that one off and currently own a M1 Super 90 Benelli and a Super Sport that covers just about all the things I want to do with a semi auto.

I've owned Remington 1100's and while they are nice guns they are dated in design and I'm much more fond of the Benelli.

Not hearing good things on the newer Remingtons in regard to reliability and durability.

Seems to be that way with everything Remington makes. The quality goes down and the price goes up.

One of the guys at the club had a Remington 105CTi. It was a piece of ####. The rib was off centre, the gun frequently malfunctioned and if you weren't awake during the loading procedure you'd pinch your thumb quite badly.

The 105CTi is probably the worst new gun I've seen in some time and it is priced in the same range as the Beretta 391 and Benelli M2.

Either the Beretta or Benelli would be much better choices. The Benelli is a simpler design although with more recoil. The Beretta is more complex but softer on the shoulder due to the gas-operated mechanism.

If you don't need 3-1/2" shells I'd also look at the Beretta 391 (my favourite) or the Benelli Cordoba.
