Got Stuck While Out Bear Hunting... :(

bc longshot, the guy took a calculated risk that endagered no-one, why the unwarranted criticism? loose the skirt.

As mentioned, very surprised you didn't roll out.

Glad to hear you got it unstuck.

May I add, your little guy has likely learned a very valuable life lesson. :)

Doesn't draping a coat or blanket midway over the wire eliminate that threat?

Not sure, please correct me if I'm wrong.

LH

You are sorta correct. A coat or blanket will reduce it, but not eliminate it. Many of us who seek out this type of "FUN" use sand bags with eyelets to run the cable through. The best option is to replace the wire rope with synthetic rope. Amsteel, firline, etc...do not stretch. When they do break, there is no stored energy and they simply fall flat to the ground. The downside is cost, I payed almost $300 for 150' of Amsteel for my Warn 8274. As a bonus it is VERY light, much better if you need to drag 100' of cable through a bog to a solid anchor point. Steel covered in mud gets pretty damn heavy fast.

Amsteel is a version of line that was created for the offshore fishing industry.

Not exactly stuck in the mud, but a definite hicup in the trail. I was driving the truck and took the picture.
That's a gear driven winch in there with 3/8 inch cable.

Love the old P Wagon !
Wish I still had my 61 Power Wagon Panel.

Camp Cook keep takin the little guy with you I started taking my son out with me when he was 3 or 4 the earlier the better I say there is no guarantees in life but death and taxes. He will learn more real life by living it than watching some nanny state driven kids tv.

BC longshot put on a kilt at least and hide your mangina. Stuck in the mud with a three year old, oh my god call social services.
Get real, my buddy flew his wife and 2 kids moose hunting into NWT for 2 weeks one age 4 one age 7 for 2 weeks on a lake by themselves.
5 years later the kids are still talking about that trip and keep pestering him for when they can go again.

Well, let's put it this way. That fellow in front was about twenty at the time. He was a lifetime friend and hunting, fishing companion, but unfortuneately he died a few years ago, at age 72. The truck is a 1947 model.
Hey, I have said I have some experience in outdoor activity, hunting, etc, and a lifetime hobby in shooting.
Actually, the truck has been rebuilt by my nephews, then donated to a museum.

Congrats to you for being able to enjoy this hobby for your entire life. I hope I can say the same when I'm in my 70's. (unless the liberals have their way :( )

Nice to see these old pictures, and in color too...:D

It kind of looks like your friend is doing a *facepalm*... f:P::p

Thanks for your remarks. I asked him to scratch his head, like, "What the hell are we going to now."
I had an early 35mm camera and the film was the Kodachrome, with an ASA speed of 10, as compared to later when 100 was considered slow!

H4831: Great old photo. There are thousands of us who wish we would have had cameras back in the "good old days"!!:p:p

Cam what were you thinking driving in there???!!! Never drive down slope of standing water LOL> Glad to see you got yourself a proper camper and that your raising another BC outdoorsman. Just maybe send him out of the immediate family for defensive bush driving training LOL.

You sure got a deal on the recovery. Glad to know there are still a few hardworking guys out there that wont take advantage of a situation, or did you show him the 45-70 skills before he made out the bill LOL>

When a son was in a low elementary grade in school, I took him on a couple day trip hunting a grizzly bear.
He missed a day of school. When the teacher asked him why he hadn't been at school the day before, he kind of shook up the class, to say nothing of the lady teacher. He replied, "I was with my dad hunting grizzly bears!"

And he learned more in that day then in 2 months of school. As for the moronic 'taking it easy' with Kids comment every parent I know is pretty interested in keeping thier kids safe. Cam's son is safer with him stuck in the bush for days on end then he would be getting commuted through rush hour to 'daycare' at 7:30 am like 3/4s of BC's future generation.

Taking kids into the bush is pretty simple, don't let your kid drown, don't let your kid get eaten or too badly stung, don't let them get too cold or too hot and make sure they have lots of fun.

Hope to see you and your boy in town here Cam.

Glad to hear your still at it... & still posting. Some of us still take heed in your advice.
