Went in to my local shop this week to see what was new, they handed me a SKS, my first thought was that it was pretty much the ugliest rifle I have seen, I just smiled an said "what else ya got?". He then told me he shoots one and that it comes with 1000 rounds of ammo, I was intrigued.
I took the rifle and went over it, it didn't take long and it grew on me. Went home and googled "modified SKS", now hundreds of youtube videos later I just can't get my mind off the thing.
$400 for a new Russian SKS with 1000 rounds sound like a reasonable price? I can choose the rifle I want out of the remaining in the case, not that any were worth fondling with those original stocks, not exactly premium wood.

S.I.R./Cabelas in Winnipeg has refurb Russian SKS (nothing matching) for $200 and ammo crates for $200. I think that is a good average price. If the Numbers match then you got yourself a pretty decent deal.

really ?? how long ago was this ?? interested in a shooting sks all my others are one you keep locked up lol.

For me its one of those rifles you love and hate all at the same time! its excellent since it is so cheap to shoot plus the rifle itself doesnt cost much either. But I hate it sooooo much because all people do is talk about SKS and everybody owns one, there not unique at all, not even in the slightest. I look at them as the Coeeys of the centerfire world. Congrats on a great purchase!

I don't think they're that ugly in their original configuration. In fact, I love the look of the Yugo M59/66 with the grenade launcher and the heavy stock. Very military looking.

You're going to have fun with the SKS. Don't forget to bring the Windex for a quick range cleaning.

Can't find it on their website... I guess its not listed on there

They had some k-98's a while back for $250, which I am still disapointed that I didn't grab one. I ask the guy and he said they sometimes get a surplus shipment of which they have someone come through and take out the better condition ones, then they liquadate them untill they are gone.

So true, but I really enjoy my SKS, its like the beater car you loved to thrash on every day. But then on weekends you drove your proper car.

Every time I go into Cabelas I ask if they have any sks's. they always say " no sold out" then I come home and someone on here says they just got one. Maybe there is a secret handshake or code word for them to take you in the back to see sks heaven. I bought my chinese sks from "SIR' for $153.00. best purchase I ever made. This IS the old beater car you had when you were young. You can beat the crap out of it and at the end of the day it's begging for more. Get a:

Tapco stock - Fabsports
spring loaded firing pin from pauls guns "sks man"
leapers quad rail from Fabsports - awsome guy!
Bolt buffer - Fabsports?
And a red dot scope from good ole' Fabrice over at Fabsports. Go on his site, he'll hook you up.

You will not regret it!

I have to scratch my itch for a new sks every couple of months. Seriously we bought one and thought keep this one stock and pimp out the next one. After a few outings with it we were concidering an 10 gun crate lol.
