I went out with a friend who has a older Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 magnum. He let me blast off 12 rounds with it. Recoil wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

Might be adding one of those to my collection soon. :)

Always liked the Super Blackhawk. decent quality and decent price. the 4 5/8th would make a great trail gun (hypothetically in Canada).

My 5.5" Ruger Redhawk makes me very happy when I shoot it...or even when I don't.

Too bad the 5.5 Redhawks are so hard to find. to me that is one of the perfect 44 revolvers. I have the 4.2 629 which i love (perfect balance, nice and compact) but not one for a steady diet of magnum loads like the Redhawk.

Can wait for my DE 44 barrel to come in. Fun to shoot a few rounds with the 50 but each mag is about $20

44 mag is a great round. I've got 2 revolvers in 44 mag, a Ruger NM SBH and a Taurus Raging Bull. Both guns can handle magnum loads all day long.

Only downside to 44 mag is factory ammo is a bit expensive at about $1/round. I definitely recommend reloading if shooting 44mag, I've been able to get down to $.18 per round.

I reload so hopefully it can make it a little more cost effective, lol. I really would like to add a 629 to the line up as it would be a nice companion for my 617 but will look into the Ruger as it seems to be built a little heavier.

Both the 629 and the Rugers are great guns, but if you're like me and only shoot full house magnum loads than I'd get the Ruger.

44 magnum was at one time ( like winning once the Master or Indy 500 your are marked for life even if you do nothing else ever after) dixit Harry Callahan... The most powerfull handgun in the world... Great liner for a great caliber, everybody heard the name 44 magnum... JP.

Smith & Wesson excellent 44 mag revolver . Sold one years ago Still kicking my self. So accurate with 44 special loads. Using a Ruger now. Great cartridge to reload. Target cowboy or full house loads.

A great load is a standard 240 grain cast round nose flat point at 850 fps. Couple it with a nice lever action rifle makes for a great range day.

Shooting the Super Blackhawk 44 really does put a smile on. Casting and reloading plinking loads makes for pretty cost effective fun at the range. Now if only we could only take them out for a little gopher shooting. Those close range critters would really dance.

I have a 4.2 S&W 629 in 4.2" that I modified some Hogue Grips to resemble the Jerry Miculek JM Grip profile and it has rapidly become my favourite wheelgun.

44 Mag is such a great round! Everyone should have one, or two....or three.....
I got a DW 44 mag years ago and absolutely love it. Then came a Marlin 1894. My DE 50/44 joined the clan last year, and just recently, I got a Ruger 44 carbine :dancingbanana:

(E)

The first time I ever fired a handgun was around 6 years ago when I got to fire a relative's collection of Rugers: Mark III 22/45, Blackhawk, and Super Blackhawk. He reloads his own .357 and .44 so I got to fire a bunch of different loads, from low-recoil, smoky loads to some pretty powerful Magnum loads.

Barring them becoming prohibited, I will own a Blackhawk in a couple of years. I'd buy one now, but I just started collecting this year and there are a couple of other guns I want in my collection first.
