Gouge in barrel land in t97

Send it back… Whatever dealer it was, let them know you're sending it back to them in the mail and have it packaged up ready to go. this is unacceptable and ... how do you know that the rifle couldn't shoot 1.5" or 1.3" without that gouge?

It's like surplus guns some with nice shinny barrels shoot poorly and the one with the rusted out dark bore and pitted shoot like a dream. The biggest problem is more fouling getting caught in that area and it being harder to clean other then that not a problem.

If it works and is alright the store might tell you to send it to the importer for warrenty. Depending on what they want to do they can really #### you around depending on the company.

You should keep it, they probably all have a gouge there and yours isn't bad. It probably makes the cheap norc ammo more accurate!

Thanks for all the responses I have emailed the dealer and I am waiting g to see what they can do for me if anything at all, I believe that even a cheap gun should meet certain standards (i don't consider this a "cheap" gun BTW)

You wouldn't accept a cheap pot with a hole in it so why a barrel with a gouge right?

Problem is dealer policy is problem within 7 days fixed at discretion of management otherwise too bad otherwise I would have returned it early
Even then i would be out the shipping cost..

I've had good experiences with this dealer in the past so I hope they come through, but then in the past nothing srs like this happened. I will keep everyone posted on what happens.

admittedly, the gouge is kind of like a pitting mark in an old surplus rifle with no "burrs" really, and the photos make it look worse than it really is. Maybe I will try with better ammo to see if accuracy will get even better, but imo 2.5-3 inch groups with irons is not bad for this type of rifle

what I'm really worried is it eroding more or something when it gets higher in round count. surplus rifles with these type of marks in their bores seem to hold up just fine.. but as everyone probably knows a mark like this on a new rifle is a little upsetting:confused:

I would take it back to the store you bought it from. That is a pretty obvious defect.

I would never ever take 'no' for an answer, take it back, show them the gouge, it's so very blatant what happened during the building process… This is unexceptionable even for a $500 gun, it doesn't matter… Don't except this, you don't know what problems it could cause down the road, rust? and it could get worse etc etc.
I would not call them, personally, I would go into the store with the rifle all cleaned up and show them the gouge, put the rifle on the counter. Pull out a piece of paper and start writing your name your address and your cell number and your home phone number blah blah blah blah blah and say 'thank you guys I knew you'd take care of me, it obviously needs a new barrel or to be replaced'... PERIOD
Do it bro, good luck man

I just took a look at mine and I also see a gouge trough the gas port. They probably mostly all have this same defect.
Don't accept that, Crash! This is crap and it should not happen and if we let it happen.... Then they will continue to send us crap and worse crap and worse crap until somebody stands up.

These are low end, low quality rifles, at a low price. Plus, they probably cost around 1/3 of what they retail for. You paid over $1000.00. The importer/retailers should deal with the defect. That's what their cut is for. Send it back to them if it bugs you. The Chinese profit from volume and cost cutting. Not branding and quality. Complain all you want. It will not likely improve the situation. It's business model works for them.

You are taking a big risk if you exchange it. You would likely end up with a different T97 that has a different T97 issue. An issue that could be worse than the one you have now. With a rifle that is currently shooting 2" groups ...

X2....same thing I said. If it ain't broke, don't fix it (or exchange it for that matter). My priorities with something like this is accuracy and reliability....you got that. These really should retail here for less then $500....can't see these costing more to manufacture then the Ar15's they make. The only reason they are $1000 is people like the idea of bulpups and non-restricted black rifles and will pay it because there is no other option at the moment. Just because it's $1000 doesn't mean it's a high quality firearm....maybe you could have those expectations from something made in EU or NA but not the PRC.

There are lots of $1000 made in NA crap on the market too.

Note that manufacturing process was designed for a bigger 5.8mm proprietary PLA caliber. And machining of smaller 5.56 bore barrels may cause a "touchdown" with the original bits stroke.
