Hi all,
I just wanted to post a few pictures of the m1911 I recently found in my Grandfathers house in London. Given that we live in the UK and after a bit of research I assumed it would have be one sold to London Armoury, however it was actually sold to the Canadian Government and shipped in 1914 in a batch of 100.
It is similar to the one varifleman has posted previously, he has also been very helpful and given me lots of useful information on another forum. I originally posted in a few UK forums when I found it but thought it would make more sense to post it here! Does anyone know how these ended up back in London, I wondered if it was during ww2 but then there were so few shipped to Canada I wondered if it was just brought over by someone returning to England at some point? My great Grandfather spend time in Canada so that was also a possibility. I have tried to trace the original owner with the "Douglas" engraving but without an initial there are too many possibilities unfortunately.
Does anyone know what proof markings should be on it and where they would be?
Thanks all
Steve
