Lol. The SAR group I volunteer with had two of those. As soon as we got out of cell service they didnt work. When we called the company to inquire, they told us the satellite we were using was having issues and they cant do anything about it. Changed providers and it's better. 15 calls to get lat/longs out for a rescue as opposed to nothing at all.
 
wow antiques! neat! I remember the satellites they used were kerosene powered, amazing the fuel tanks on those old birds still have fuel left!

Antiques? I remember the first Inmarsats, they were huge!

I have one if these 9505s and UT works fine with an Iridium card. I called fir a tow truck fir a broken down RV north of Dease Lake last year. It's comforting to have when you go north of the Yellowhead in BC.

Yeah we had nothing but comm delays and failures with these on site, using Starlink now. I can set it up in under a few minutes if I need to make a call, then we can watch TV while we wait for help. ;)
