Government tender is a Government overreach and is now a reality

That's against PIPEDA. Unless the insurance company has a court order for it and they're investigating for fraud or something.

Except you agree to their terms of service in order to use any of their networks. Don’t want them to sell your location? Then you don’t get to use a cell phone in Canada.

Ethics violations ...multiple, paying criminals with cerb, embarrassing Canada on multiple occasions with racist acts and dances, paying terrorists with your tax money , uttering this statement "There’s a level of admiration I actually have for China. Their basic dictatorship is actually allowing them to turn their economy around on a dime ". Anyone thinks that this person will use this data for honest and good purposes is foolish person . But pay attention to this person because they will be the ones turning you over for speech violation , or vaccine violations or thought violations .

You ever actually read that terms of service or privacy policy? They can’t sell your location data to insurance firms or gift it to the government.

I will just leave this Costco sized roll of tinfoil here for ya'll...
*Backs out slowly as not to agitate the conspiracy nuts as the rock in the corner mumbling about trackers...*

*Smoke bomb*

I see. So reading dozens of news articles about government, corporations and police illegally collecting data, using technology inappropriately and often only found out when some whistle blower whistles, what are we conspiracy types supposed to make of all that? Like, I know what you'd do:

"fingers in ears goes la la la"

But for the rest of us, are you really saying there is no need to even watch for these breeches or worry about them out when they occur? We are somehow immune to erosion of our rights and privacy by completely ethical government, corporations and police that have never nor will ever lie to us?

Honestly, data is a beautiful thing.
"I had a dollar and my neighbor had a dollar, we traded and both still had a dollar.
I had an idea and my neighbor had an idea, we traded and both had two ideas."
I wish these government/corporate voyers used my data to better the world, not profit themselves.

I just filed a complaint with the federal and Alberta office of the privacy commissioner over this. That should at least get them looking into it.

The key in the RFP falls under this clause:

The work plan must demonstrate ALL of the following:
* Protects privacy: description of how de-identified data are provided to ensure the anonymized nature of the data, removal of all personal identifiers, and grants users the ability to easily opt-out of mobility data sharing program.

We're all going to have to make sure we click that box if this program moves forward.

good on you for actually doing something, even if it's unlikely it was actually change anything. I try to donate a little money occasionally to groups like the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms and other civil liberty groups as well. The free software foundation, Tor project, electronic frontier foundation, Whonix project, and other digitial privacy advocacy groups and software projects all deserve a little support.

Hah, This is a cheap and shameless method of starting a non firearm related controversy in order to gain advertising and support for their business.

Let's add a line to your analogy:

"I had a dollar and my neighbor had a dollar, we traded and both still had a dollar.
I had an idea and my neighbor had an idea, we traded and both had two ideas."
I had a dollar and the government/corporate voyers used my data to find out where I kept it so they could take it."

Or someone who happens to own a business posting something for everyone’s situational awareness.

If they had the bright shiny solution for “only 3 easy payments of $19.99” billy Mayes styles then yeah.

This isn’t that.

Ditto shame on the original poster

Paranoia over tracking? Moot Concern? And this is from firearms owners?

How about "Hmm, Mr Bloggins, based on your cell phone pings, your speed along the 407 was in excess of posted limits, please report to Canadian Tire for your mandatory speed governor installation".

In 50 years we went from taking .22's to school on the bus for the rifle range to where we are now.

I'll say this about the Liberals - they appear to be learning the Long Game from their PLA overlords.

With respect I strongly disagree. Gun owners were forced to register long guns under threat of criminal sanctions if they didn’t (thank you Vic Toews and PM Harper for kicking this to the curb). Willfully surrendering your privacy rights to allow 24/7 government tracking of your whereabouts via smart phone is another step closer to relinquishing more of our Charter Rights & Freedoms. I for one have no desire to live in a Canadianized neo Soviet Union where the government tracks and controls our movements. Sadly this appears to be happening again in Quebec as we speak.
