I just got a new Ruger and LOVE it. I shot about a box of ammo and then started having an issue where you would pull the trigger and click the hammer stops going back about half cocked and won't go further. If you let the trigger down and pull it again it seems to free up and work fine. No issues in SA mode.

I did notice I can get it to do the problem most of the time if I pull the trigger about 90% until I hear the click of the bottom cylinder lock engage (referring to the small "ear" that sticks up out of the frame in the bottom of the cylinder "window". It's the part that locks into the matching cuts around the outside of the cylinder--generally referred to as the bolt although Ruger calls that the "cylinder latch".) then release the trigger and pull it, the next pull will lock or stop the hammer from cocking. Any Ideas? I have the same issue hot or cold, various Ammo both .38 or .357 or empty so I don't think its an ammo question and I have given it a good l cleaning and lube with G96 till the qtips come off white. It doesn't happen on every pull its random unless I do the method described above.

Thanks for any info here are some pics I have of it. I love IT!

PS NOT SURE if this should go here or in Gun Smithing or something else? Admin please move and advise. Thanks again.

New to you? It might have been fiddled with, damaged, etc...
If bought from a store, call them.
Dry fire it, trying to reproduce the problem and looking at the way the transfer bar and the elevator bar/finger work (through the hammer cut in the frame).
Do you know how to take it apart? Something might have fallen in the mechanism (it will come down attached to the trigger guard).

if you pull the trigger, follow the manual instructions. It's not hard, but if you get the hammer/trigger motions out of sequence it can be interesting to try to get it apart/together again.

I picked up a GP 100 myself a while back. Like new but a decent price as it's a 4", prohib. Although I haven't used it all that much yet, so far, I haven't experienced any of the issues you've mentioned.

Also, it's a good partner for another prohib I have. A 4" SP 101in .22LR.

In 357, while my preference is still for Smith 27's and Colt Pythons, but:redface:, couldn't turn down a good deal, or two.

Okay, if I understand you correctly..... You need to replace the trigger return spring.

Are you having this problem when shooting a string of shots? If so, it sounds like your trigger isn't being returned to the front of the 'stroke,' which makes the hammer just click rather than cocking.

Replace the spring if you are confident you can manage it or pony up the cash for a gun smith. The spring should be cheap.
